People using chat gpt is no different than people using the internet before ChatGPT was created. I actually support kids cheating in college. If I was a professor I would let my college students cheat and tell them this is how it works in the real world so have at it.

Unless they getting hired to write emails, that shyt don’t even matter. The point is, in the real world, people use all their resources at the job. Wether it be chat gpt, asking your coworker for help, google, etc… once you get past high school, you gotta start teaching kids how life really work. Your boss won’t care how you got the answer for real

I can guarantee you engineers cheat at a decent rate in college though.

I don’t know many good paying jobs that don’t require you to write an email. That’s not an issue tho. Most emails write the email for you at this point. You don’t even have to type a response anymore. Basic responses are already generated.

The article I linked actually shows the study of people using Google versus ChatGPT. At my job, you’re not allowed to to use ChatGPT . That doesn’t mean people don’t use it, it means if you get caught you’re fired. Not every company is allowing you to dump secrets into ChatGPT.

I use current domain knowledge to give it context about what I want.

Then from there I’ll say generate new or novel ideas from it or explain in simple terms. That’s it.

For example in Software I’ll tell it to write code given some standard: modular format, follow S.O.L.I.D, follow Clean Code, etc. For what I study in class I give it the textbook name.

If I don’t know the standard I’ll ask what the best practices are, get a list of them and ask it to implement from there asking which one is the most suitable. Now I understand what it’s doing and get the work done.

I don’t know what to tell yall. People been using the resources available to them and they will continue to. And of course people are using chat gpt at your job. People are using it everywhere. It’s like expecting nikkas to keep using ovens after the microwave came out.

Do you use anything in addition to ChatGPT?

i actually don't use Chatgpt often, I mostly use perplexity's sonar-pro(a fine-tune of LLama-3.3 70B), deepseek, qwen models, grok and sometimes chatgpt for search stuff. I got use to using other models soon after chatgpt debuted because it kept giving me a lot of refusals and other models were more accommodating.

Once ChatGPT dropped 4o and the image generation, I bought their plan and have been liking it the most… perplexity used to be my go to… but I prefer ChatGPT and I like how it has memory built into it now.

Yeah, basically.

I’ve realized the top people I’ve worked with have a “Whatever it takes” personality.

If we had to do everything from scratch then why are we even using email? Instead we should write letters by hand and travel on horseback (or foot) to drop off the messages in person to your team.

They’re tech advancements, use them to get to the next level. Now I still think people should learn what they’re inputting and how to analyze the outputs. The best will use both.

On average though, I think the more people using A.I the better. The A.I being more accurate with knowledge is better for everyone. Communicating based off of A.I seems much more accurate vs humans sprinkling in their opinions in more.

Yeah but then they get into jobs and can't even form a complete sentence in a email.
Why does it matter if they can use chatgpt to craft these complete sentences for them in a much faster time and will be communicating the same ideas they'd have without ChatGPT?

And you think companies are okay with putting non-public internal private information into a 3rd party AI to craft an intricate email?

Furthermore, if they are called upon to speak in a meeting or give a presentation, what's going to save them?

That's on the company for not allowing their workers to create their own Agents in a secure OpenAI or a AiFoundry portal of some sort.

Or do only workers have to worry about keeping up with the latest technologies while companies simultaneously lag behind but hire with the expectations that employees are keeping their skillsets up with the times?

You can also craft presentations in ChatGPT, you also still have to be strong enough in your understanding of the topic to effectively use ChatGPT in the first place so answering questions and having to speak in a meeting shouldn't be an issue in the first place.

How are you able to craft effective responses from ChatGPT without being able to understand the topic well enough to communicate it to ChatGPT in a way that it will be able to understand and construct a response that makes sense and won't get you in trouble for presenting?

I think there are over a million finetuned open sourced llm's now and hundreds of foundation models they are based on. companies don't have to send anything to 4rd parties and can just host the models locally themselves. that's why there are thousands of ai startups to help make that happen.
