:laff:

Arrogant Sony was the funniest shyt ever.

"It’s probably too cheap…" (Ken Kutaragi on the $599 PS3, 2007)

"Microsoft does not concern us. Microsoft is not a technology company."(Nobuyuki Idei, Sony chief corporate adviser, 2007)
:dead:

"The Xbox 360 is more of an Xbox 1.5 than a next generation console." (Ken Kutaragi on the design of the competition, 2005)
:mjlol:

"This time, Microsoft has stated clearly that it is going after the PlayStation. However, they're going not after the PlayStation 3, but the PlayStation 2. They were looking at 2, and that's why [Xbox 360] became like that." (Ken Kutaragi explains Microsoft’s lack of ambition with the 360, 2005).

"[Wii] is a lollipop, and I'm too old for lollipops." (Jack Tretton, 2007)

”The Xbox - again, I can't come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity.” (Kaz Hirai. 2009)

We don’t care”. (Ken Kutaragi provides Sony’s response to the successes of the Wii and 360, 2006)

Man, console wars were probably on fire during those years :wow: I just couldn't believe an exec would boldly say these things.

Actually Sony was always arrogant as fukk.

The amount of backtracking M$ had to do was insane. Looking back at the reveal and E3 press conferences, the Xbox one has to be the biggest let down in gaming history.

Not only was it overhyped but it was overhyped with shyt nobody cared about: TV, Sports, Kinect. And under delivered on things people actually wanted; graphics, games etc. And failed at everything.

They're vision of the Xbox one failed because they thought they knew what was best for the consumer.

Remember I was talking about the N64 era. there was no loading games on the N64 cartridges at the time. The cartridges were not that big. A port of Resident Evil 2 I think was the only game on the N64 that had anything appearing close to load times due to having to uncompress the FMV that they crammed into the cartridge.

Bear in mind that I am not saying that load times was the reason why nintendo won or lost. In my opinion the low cost of CDs meant that that third parties coud produce much more copies at a very low cost at very low risk. Cartridges were much more expensive for third parties to manufacture. I also think they had to buy them from Nintendo. This meant third parties started focusing on the playstation.

With respect to the Gamecube comment, I'm saying you wouldn't have gotten to the point where gamecube would have had to compete against the Playstation 2. If nintendo had gone CDs, Final Fantasy VII etc would have gone to Nintendo and Playstaion 1 would never have gotten much traction (certainly much less) so there may not even had been a Playstation 2 for Gmaecube to go up against..etc
I just can't agree with the idea that Nintendo fell behind or things would have been different if they would have changed the physical format their games were on. Regardless, they were still putting out the same very safe games. PS came out with violent games. Stuff that appealed to a much more mature audience. What Nintendo needed was a Sony partnership like they were going to have in the beginning before they pulled out and left Sony on their own. The format wasn't the issue. It was their leadership.
Islandg is 100% right.

That ps1/n64 gen was 100% about format.

Nintendo owned the cartridges, they charged 3rd parties to manufacture on them.

So when nintendo rolled them out again all the 3rd parties jumped to sony. If nintendo had used cds the gaming industry would look RADICALLY different. Nintendos own hubris created the monster of Sony. All the companies like square and capcom went to playstation because of the use of cds instead of cartridge.

This isnt even debateable its just a fact. Youre confusing who nintendo became with who nintendo was. Theres a reason all those companies went to sony, and that reason was format.

This doesn't compare to the mistakes Nintendo made when they were working with Sony and dropped that project and the PS3 coming out at $600. Microsoft has never been the industry leader. Their fall from last generation to this one isn't even that big of a deal. They were #2 last generation and they're basically still #2 in this generation.

Yeah true but its fukking mindbaffling how a game company basically destroyed the core gamers goodwill they built up from the 360. I was all onboard for buying the Xbox one but that arrogance, and all the issues the system was gonna have with not having used games, always online bullshyt. Plus forced kinect connection no matter what,I mean all they had to do was make it like the 360 and they would have won but I think the cherry on top is how they came out and was like its $500 for a weak ass system with a ton of restrictions they buried themselves..
