In the Silver Lining
Becoming a Black Book Worm.

I did a lot of stuff as a kid, but my biggest accomplishment was reading and learning about the world and currents events independent of school. My folks raised us like that. This is mostly pre-1995 or pre-Microsoft Windows '95 which I call the real beginning of the Internet for the masses.

There were books and magazines and newspapers everywhere. Plus I didn't have cable so I didn't have a choice but to read and entertain myself that way :russ:
By default, ncobody had to force me to read...I just formed a hunger for knowledge. When the internet did come, after looking up rap lyrics, the first thing I searched for was Afro-Latino history, because I was exposed to African American history, but knew there was a whole hemisphere and a 1/2 that had plenty of Diasporic black people I knew nothing about :banderas:

Now the irony is once I graduated college, and the internet news and resources were more diverse and professional, I learned a lot of stuff I thought was one way, actually had other significant aspects that changed my perspectives.

HELL
When I taught myself how to cook at 6 years old, I would cook for my siblings standing on a chair in front of the stove

I scored a 36 on the ACT, the highest score in the whole state apparently. The scholarships poured in and I felt like a star

#TSC
Highest score on ACT/earned more total scholarship money than anyone else in my senior class

Was voted Most Likely to Succeed. Life has ensured that I'm taking the long way to that though :manny:
