What happened to Bill Cosby is really a parable. A parable that respectability politics will never work. Cosby was a man who embodied respectability politics. White America called him “America’s dad” for God’s sake. Cosby was probably the most respected black man in mainstream white society at one point in time because he wasn’t like the other negroes.
He destroyed stereotypical depictions of black folks on the Cosby show. He hBut his whole image was built on the shoddy foundation of respectability politics.
When black folks and other minorities get a good “education” and an upper middle class white collar job and marry a white person and move into a white upper class neighborhood, they get converted to the religion of respectability politics. And the Pound Cake speech was respectability politics 101 for that ass.
Bill was talking out his ass and the white supremacy he tried to say was an invisible boogie man eventually betrayed him and swallowed his ass to rot in the same place with the same disenfranchised black folks he was chastising.
But Bill is ultimate proof respectability politics don’t work. They had zero physical evidence that man raped anyone. Zero. He gave women qualludes to come down from coke at parties in the 70’s. Qualludes are not roofies and don’t have the effect of roofies. Bill didn’t have to rape anyone. He was the fukking man.
Look at those pictures from the 70’s, those white women were all over him and he looked indifferent.
The Cosby trial is proof that when enough white people say something is true in Amerikkka, whether it is actually true or not, it becomes a fact regardless. This is how white supremacy works. They locked Bill up for allegedly raping white women with no hard evidence the same way they would lock up broke ass Daquan from building 115 on the seventh floor for the same type of allegations with no real evidence except crying white women.
Even though he was “America’s dad”, he was still a nikka.
