Average Bernie bro - "Government isn't working . . let's make government bigger . . and tax you more"

To be fair the average Bernie supporter wasn't taking the stance that right wing conservatives take in regards to big government not working. Bernie didn't criticize the size of our government, he just believes our government is flawed in its approach to healthcare, education, and Wall St./big banks, among other things. With those critiques it has nothing to do with the size of the government.

Well the concepts that he wanted to make it bigger for, if accomplished which is a huge if, would've addressed many of the major issues in this country.

He wasn't preaching more government for the sake of more government or more oversight of the average Americans' day to day life. He wanted to scale back defense spending and tax Wall St. much more and move that money into education and healthcare.

Ya . . and the tooth fairy has a bridge to the north pole to sell you. It doesn't happen by just waving a magic wand. Making a bunch of promises doesn't make it feasible

I didn't say he would've accomplished it, but I don't think he had ulterior motives either. I think he's extremely idealistic and made promises that he couldn't have achieved like any other politician, but he wasn't advocating bigger government for no reason and he didn't take the stand that conservatives take that government is too big, just that it's flawed, which it is.

Also scaling back defense spending and taxing Wall St. could've accomplished a good deal of what he promised, not all of it but it could go a long way in lowering education and healthcare costs, so we're not talking about a magic wand or something not based in reality here.

So people earn money. Are taxed on the money they earn. Take the risk of investing the money, literally spurring the economy and you want to tax those people again when they sell their shares? :camby:

Taxation is theft

Creating a bigger government is just going to lead to bigger incompetence and eventually more tyranny

Nah that wasn't his plan. His plan was only to tax investments of $1000 or more, $5 on every $1000 and only on people who make more than $75,000 a year. Sounds like a solid plan to me. It's far less than people pay in income tax and only would've taxed people who are relativeley comfortable. It would've hit the big investors on Wall St. mainly and they deserve to be taxed far more.

And I know taxation is theft (according to the US founding fathers' ideals), I didn't say I agree with what Bernie said 100% just pointing out that what you said about Bernie supporters was inaccurate, they never fought for smaller government and never criticized the size of the government. I understand conservatives' criticism of big government also, but there's no reason to believe it's anymore feasible to scale back the federal government at this point and expect good things to come of it. Now if you want to talk about states seceding from the federal government that's about the only way government could become smaller and any progress be made in the average persons' everyday life.

It is possible for a person to be objective in their perception of politics in this country.

No it's not, it's middle class talk. I pay over 30% of my paycheck every week to the federal government, as long as I'm paying that the super rich on Wall St., who were bailed out by US taxpayer funds, should be paying far more than they do now.

I don't even know why I'm responding to u at this point, you're clearly not interested in having a sensible conversation here.
