hes a 14 year old kid who made a clock, its gonna malfunction and randomly go off sometimes. if i was him i wouldnt have brought it to school because its profiling waiting to happen but he shouldnt have to think like that as a kid.

Being anti-common sense WHILE ADMITTING this kid shouldn't have been arrested, that he in fact did a very stupid thing?
He didn't make a clock. He removed the cashing from an old one and just put the components inside a box.
We live in a different reality these days. The same way you can't make toy guns and take them to school, you can't make things that look like fake bombs (which was the goal here) and pretend they're innocent.
Thats whats up. Hopefully he doesn't take the wires out of those and put them inside nondescript boxes to troll his teachers

Yes - in the original story it stated that he showed his engineering teacher FIRST. Upon seeing the clock, his engineering teach just shrugged it off as a wack accomplishment but told Ahmed that he probably shouldn't show other people (passive hint). The clock went off in English class and the teacher asked what it was. The rest is history.

After the story of his arrest for a homemade clock went viral, 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamedreceived an outpouring of support on social media. He also drew the attention of President Obama, Mark Zuckerberg, and NASA scientists — each of whom invited the teen to tour their facilities.
“Thank you for your support! I really didn’t think people would care about a muslim boy,” the teen posted on Twitter. “Thank you fellow supporters. We can ban together to stop this racial inequality and prevent this from happening again[.]”
But some high-profile figures maintain the Muslim student’s new-found fame is baseless, and that school administrators acted reasonably.
Taking her outrage to Facebook on Saturday, former governor-turned-reality-tv-star Sarah Palin wrote that Mohamed’s actions were suspicious and Obama’s expression of support was inappropriate.
On his talk show, Real Time With Bill Maher, the host said Mohamed deserved an apology but teachers reacted reasonably in targeting the boy.
“People at the school thought it might be a bomb … because it looks exactly like a f*cking bomb,” he said during a panel discussion with Mark Cuban, Jorge Ramos, George Pataki, and Chris Matthews. “It’s not the color of his skin. Somebody look me in the eye right now and tell me. Over the last 30 years, if so many young Muslim men … and he’s young, 14, but that’s not like it’s never happened before, hasn’t blown up a lot of sh*t around the world. And this kid deserves an apology, because he wasn’t one of them… Over the last 30 years, it’s been one culture that has been been blowing sh*t up over and over again.”
He also pointed out that the idea that Mohamed could’ve brought a bomb to school wasn’t unfounded, as several American teenagers have joined ISIS to the shock of people who knew them well.
Famous atheist and biologist Richard Dawkins agrees that Mohamed suffered an injustice, but the praise he received was uncalled for.
“If the reassembled components did something more than the original clock, that’s creative. If not, it looks like hoax,” he tweeted. “Disassembling & reassembling is great. But you shouldn’t then claim it was your “invention.”

Of course he wasn't context aware. He's a 14 yr old kid, that up until now, was ignorant of race and religion in America. His family and community blinded him with that "we're all Americans..as long as you work hard in school you'll be an equal" BS.
It shouldn't be up to a kid to be context aware. It should be up to the first fukkn adult that was a fukkn engineering teacher who he confided in.
I used to take apart my rc cars all the time, Hell, I even destroyed a Sega Dreamcast and used the circuit boards for an art project. Now I will admit the kid could've and should've chosen a better casing, but it has a plug.It doesn't look like a goddamn clock!

and not raise SOME concerns to the average person who doesn't know what ANY electronics look like. Relatively NO one looks this shyt up or breaks their electronics up. And no one is dumb enough to troll their teachers with it.
The young man could very well be trolling the teachers and the whole school if he has felt as if he's been picked on or bullied in the past. His parents could've given him the go ahead to take the clock to school, knowing that it was going to invoke some type of negative reaction in order to draw attention to the way Muslims are profiled in this country. I don't know his motives, but whatever they were, he used America's prejudicial nature towards people of color and "non Americans" as a stepping stone to a better life for himself. All at the tender age of (14*edit) no less.

All the school engineer had to say was it a clock, then case closed...
