How you gonna ROFL with a hollow back?
What he will never admit or understand is that ESPN made him, and anything he did or will do in the future is due to the platform that they gave him. He is a bright guy, with some good ideas, but no matter how much money he has behind him, or platform he is on, it will never compete with the brand.

He had a following just as a columnist. ESPN helped grow his brand, but Bill is hella talented. He's a fukkin legend :damn:

Unless they tailor it to his skill set just right, I think his HBO show is going to be a flop. TV is just a different animal and I'm not sure he can hack it. Way more excited for whatever he does on the documentary side over there.

It is amazing how quickly it seems that he has been able to pretty hire 95% of the old Grantland staff. Outside of Zach Lowe and Wesley Morris (who still visits), I think he's over 50 people on staff now without even being promoted by HBO. The Hollywood Prospectus dudes now are the official after show for GoT. ESPN complained that they couldn't make any money off of Grantland but BS has been able to get sponsors for all his podcasts, enough to hire all these people full-time. I do wonder what the going rate for editor for a popular blog site. He has about 10 editors right now and the site hasn't even launched yet...

Simmons needs to GTFO with those "self made" tweets...

Pretend that you didn't have the worldwide leader behind you, brehs

Act like you almost don't have 5 million Twitter followers, brehs

yall are some god damn lies

dude literally started from a bottom of the barrel AOL blogger and his increased following is what caught ESPN attention. Hell, ESPN barely gave grantland shine the whole time and would never promote his writers on their main site UNTIL they fired his ass. Then they gave 3-4 of them bigger titles so they wouldn't jump shyt. Now ESPN slurps the hell outta them.

All you haters please tell me what ESPN ever did to push Simmons

Nothing

Part of the reason he left

He earned this

The only thing dumber is the comments he's a racist
The people in this section are delusional. Dude was responsible or in part of the 2 best things ESPN had going for it. 30 for 30 and Grantland.

Yea I worry about him on TV because he doesn't transition well on that side. Hopefully he has been practicing because his promo for his show wasn't awkward like he usually comes off as.

Why does anybody hate to be a hater by pointing out that being attached to ESPN helped give him a bigger platform for his talent to shine. I'm a huge Simmons fan (though admittedly not feeling a lot of the podcasts he's done of late). The only way I was introduced to his writing was due to him being on ESPN Page 2 back when I discovered him. Would I have discovered him if he wasn't on ESPN probably not. Especially since when he came on the scene social media was nowhere near as advanced or developed as it was back then. That doesn't mean he didn't earn it or didn't grind to get where he is. Just the fact that ESPN has millions and millions of eyes on them so if a talented person comes on staff he provides the platform for that talent to be seen. I compare it to Zach Lowe. I never heard shyt about him until he came on to Grantland even though he's obviously talented, but SI online doesn't have the same reach as ESPN.

Simmons for sure took full advantage of that platform and his talent helped elevate him to being his own entity. Also while Grantland articles may not have always been front page Simmons articles usually were. He had his own section on the ESPN homepage for years linking to whatever his latest article was. They gave the man his own website and had him hosting an NBA pregame show for two years. How the hell can you say ESPN never did anything to help push him?

Also doesn't his tweet about how if you have great content the people will find it directly counter his whole gripe with ESPN not promoting Grantland enough?
