ESPN Statement on Bill Simmons

“Every employee must be accountable to ESPN and those engaged in our editorial operations must also operate within ESPN’s journalistic standards. We have worked hard to ensure that our recent NFL coverage has met that criteria. Bill Simmons did not meet those obligations in a recent podcast, and as a result we have suspended him for three weeks.”

Bill Simmons calls NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a ‘liar’ in profanity-laced rant

ESPN's Bill Simmons didn't hold anything back Tuesday, calling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a "liar" for his performance during last week's press conference on the league's ongoing domestic violence crisis.

"I just think not enough is being made out of the fact that they knew about the tape and they knew what was on it," Simmons said on his B.S. Report podcast. "Goodell, if he didn't know what was on that tape, he's a liar. I'm just saying it. He is lying. I think that dude is lying. If you put him up on a lie detector test that guy would fail. For all these people to pretend they didn't know is such f------ b-------. It really is - it's such f------ b-------. And for him to go in that press conference and pretend otherwise, I was so insulted. I really was."

The Grantland editor also challenged ESPN's brass to discipline him for speaking out against the NFL.

"I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I'm in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell, because if one person says that to me, I'm going public," Simmons said. "You leave me alone. The commissioner is a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast."

Goodell has claimed that nobody from the NFL had seen surveillance tape showing former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice strike his wife in an Atlantic City casino elevator last February until TMZ posted the video on Sept. 8. The commissioner, under fire for initially suspending Rice for just two games for the brutal assault, justified the punishment by saying that Rice had misled him about the incident.

The Associated Press reported that a law-enforcement source had shared the video with the league months before TMZ obtained it, and the Daily News reported this week that Rice and his attorney had described the incident accurately when they met with the commissioner in June. An ESPN report, meanwhile, said that Ravens officials downplayed the incident in order to shield Rice from a stiffer penalty and that Goodell and other NFL executives seemed disinterested in pursuing the case.

Was just making this thread. I'll post the reason:

SIMMONS CALLS OUT GOODELL:

The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Soo Youn wrote Simmons "obliquely taunts his employer, daring someone from the network to take him to task for slamming the NFL commissioner on his podcast, The B.S. Report, one of ESPN's most popular podcasts." Simmons during the podcast said, "I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I'm in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell. Because if one person says that to me, I'm going public. You leave me alone. The commissioner's a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast. … Please, call me and say I'm in trouble. I dare you." At the outset, Simmons "ripped into Goodell, saying: 'I just think not enough is being made out of the fact that they knew about the tape and they knew what was on it. Goodell, if he didn't know what was on that tape, he's a liar. ... For all these people to pretend they didn't know is such f-ing bullshyt. It really is -- it's such f-ing bullshyt. And for him to go in that press conference and pretend otherwise, I was so insulted. … When you're the leader, you're in charge, that's it" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 9/23).

does this mean no collumns and podcasts or is this just a tv blackout?

what am i gonna do monday with no guess the lines :lupe:
Awful Announcing is saying it's a TOTAL suspension:

This is Simmons’ third suspension at ESPN. In 2009 he was given a two week Twitter suspension by the network for comments made towards WEEI. In 2013, it was alesser Twitter ban for criticizing First Take. This is no mere Twitter ban – this is a three week total suspension. The impact across ESPN’s platforms will be huge from Grantland to the BS Report to promotion for 30 for 30. Simmons will return from suspension in time for the debut of his Grantland Basketball Show on ESPN.

Who owns their voices? :lupe: Who "owns" Grantland? Anyways the podcast was just fine with the two J's. :manny: I know they'll have an NBA Preview podcast coming up within 3 weeks tho. Last year it was Bill and Jalen. :lupe:
