40 and Metro are too low. They had a large hand in changing modern music. No Jermaine Dupri, Boi-1da and Zaytoven.

Zaytoven basically invented the sound/style we all use today.

40 is way too high. Boi-1da might be Top 25. He and Hit Boy are interchangeable to me. Zaytoven is overrated. I don't see him as an inventor because the sound he was on was already being done by Toomp and Drumma Boy. Then you had Shawty Redd. And all three >>>> Zay. He's a great musician, but so is Scott Storch and I don't think Storch is Top 25 either.

White music hipsters love Pharrell/Neptunes for some reason

They are bandwagoners who weren't paying attention during The Neptunes initial run. They became fans during Pharrell's run of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky", Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines", and Pharrell's own "Happy". Suddenly, "In My Mind" is a classic (highly slept on in real time) and people forgot Chad was 1/2 the duo. It's people that think Pharrell produced "Get Lucky", but he's only featured on the song.

40 changed the way music sounded to be fair. Everyone went low filter/low sample rate from 2008 on basically with the "R&B Drake" vibe.

Zaytoven definitely ain't overrated, maybe underrated if anything. Dude had was one of the first to do trap music as it sounds. Then did Beastmode, DS2, etc. 13 years later with Future. Nearly 20 years later still relevant. Not a lot of producers have a 20 year relevant career.

Additionally, a lot of Sonny Digital's (and other producers) had Zaytoven play the keys on their beats to bypass sample clearance.

Everyone got their own preferences, but you can't deny Zay's creds. That guy is still going strong.

Damn no DJ Quik?
Bomb Squad is way too low
They should be higher than Rick Rubin
No Havoc? No Alchemist?
Seems like they going off record sales
Cause Kanye is for sure not over Premo

They already have Kanye at #2 and that whole sound was something 40 borrowed from 808's and Heartbreaks. Then there's a lot of borrowing from Jodeci and Da Bassment.

Zaytoven was never on the level of Shawty Redd, Toomp, or Drumma Boy when it came to the trap sound. He even got surpassed by Mike Will, Lex Luger, and 808 Mafia in that regard.

Quik is #13. Kanye is definitely an arguable #2. I'm not even mad at that placement even though I don't agree. Kanye definitley played a role in sonically changing the sound of Hip Hop.

I’d say all 3 of them had a very fast rise and fall while Zaytoven came before them and outlasted them

Yup. Not to mention Zaytoven actually played keyboard and co-produced for/with some of them too.

Zaytoven going to be around for a long time as that producer in a Mike Dean type of role.

Dude knows how to switch up his sound but still keep the signature.

This was a great documentary:
