8 ball sounds more fun. But I feel like with 8 ball (and many other billiards games), there's a point where it gets too easy for very experienced players to clear the whole table in 1 or 2 turns.

most pool halls don't even have that diamond rack either.

I wonder how many places in the US have snooker.
I'm not great at 9 ball. I just prefer it over 8 ball. Especially when you're with a lot of people. Games go by quicker.
And you don't need that diamond rack. Just use the top of the triangle rack and hold the bottom balls.
you can use the triangle rack for 9 ball. you just gotta hold the balls at the bottom (pause)
