Artists are cool and seen as superstars today because of the perception that they sell records…these concocted, fishy ass “streams” and all that make them look bigger than they actually are, it’s really just a marketing tool…promotion

“Drake breaks record!! Has officially surpassed 22 billion streams in the first week for his ‘Girl, bye” project!! It’s the equivalent of 2 million albums!! You have to like this and fan out over him”. That’s really all it is. I remember Jayz lowkey explaining this years ago but they glossed over it.

No. That was just the RIAA certs. Soundscan was based on how many albums were sold at stories. Each scan = one sale.

Digital downloads are the closest thing to physical purchases in the online realm. This is extremely unfair and should be constituted as a monopoly. If I were an artist, I'd fight this because you have to be able to have an independent source to where your fans can purchase outside of the major monolithic companies of apple and spotify. This is crazy. It sounds illegal too.

I also think this is meant to stop the momentum of platforms like Even and guys who are coming up thinking independently like la russel. This is such a greedy terrible move. Disgusting really. This definitely proves the streaming services and labels are working hand in hand to keep more profits to themselves and only reveal what they want to the artists. Who’s really keeping count and how would anybody know?

It’s always weird and hilarious how people act as if numbers weren’t being cooked during the soundscan days as there have been notable stories about labels buying up albums to only sitting in a warehouse collecting dust.
