Bookmarklet and Userscript Summary
The bookmarklet and userscript are two different tools that accomplish the same goal: to help users identify and categorize online forum threads that contain social media embeds.
What are social media embeds?
Social media embeds are links or snippets of content from social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook that are shared within online forums. These embeds can be images, videos, or text posts that are embedded directly into the forum thread.
What does the bookmarklet and userscript do?
When you run the bookmarklet or userscript, it scans the online forum threads on the page and checks for social media embeds. If it finds an embed, it adds a prefix to the thread title to indicate that the thread contains content from that specific social media platform.
How does it work?
Here's a step-by-step explanation:
- Identify threads: The bookmarklet or userscript scans the online forum page and identifies individual threads.
- Get thread URL: For each thread, it retrieves the URL of the thread.
- Fetch thread content: It visits the thread URL and fetches the content of the thread.
- Parse content: It parses the content to identify social media embeds.
- Check for embeds: If it finds an embed, it checks which social media platform the embed is from (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
- Add prefix: If the embed is from a platform that you've configured the bookmarklet or userscript to check for (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, etc.), it adds a prefix to the thread title to indicate that the thread contains content from that platform.
Example
Let's say you're browsing a forum thread titled "Sports News". When you run the bookmarklet or userscript, it fetches the content of the thread and finds a Twitter embed. Since you've configured the bookmarklet or userscript to check for Twitter embeds, it adds a prefix to the thread title, changing it to "[Twitter] Sports News".
Benefits
The bookmarklet and userscript provide several benefits:
- Easy identification: It helps you quickly identify threads that contain social media embeds, making it easier to navigate the forum.
- Categorization: It categorizes threads based on the type of social media embed they contain, making it easier to find threads related to specific platforms.
- Customization: You can configure the bookmarklet or userscript to check for specific social media platforms, allowing you to customize the experience to your preferences.
Configuration options
The bookmarklet and userscript have several configuration options that allow you to customize the experience:
- Check for Twitter: You can choose whether to check for Twitter embeds.
- Check for Instagram: You can choose whether to check for Instagram embeds.
- Check for TikTok: You can choose whether to check for TikTok embeds.
- Check for Facebook: You can choose whether to check for Facebook embeds.
- Replace prefix: You can choose whether to replace the default prefix with a custom prefix based on the social media platform.
Overall, the bookmarklet and userscript provide a convenient way to identify and categorize online forum threads that contain social media embeds, making it easier to navigate and find relevant content.
