Bird never made more than 98 3ptrs in a season, Curry made 102 3ptrs in first 20 games this season

hand checking rabble rabble Jordan rabble rabble no ones plays D now rabble rabble

Bird has been quoted as saying in his era, they didn't even defend guys shooting the three. Can you imagine how crazy the numbers would be now if that were still true? Or how much easier the defense was when they were only actually defending 18-20 feet and in? NBA players are so much better at shooting range now, it's ridiculous.

Magic was a master ball handler, he just wasn't fancy(With the dribbling, at least.Passing--different story)

once he turned his back to you on the dribble like this
magic-johnson-best-nba-player-ever-21430910.jpg
,
there was no chance you were getting the ball from him.

Not only that, he'd literally be the best post player these dudes have ever faced.

When Magic hit em with a left handed hook shot:merchant:

I've seen a very very poor man's Magic(Boris Diaw) devastate teams in this era with his court vision/passing ability.

C'mon breh
nikkas confuse stylish dribbling with effective dribbling. Because Magic's handles weren't as pretty and swagful as modern players youngins get it twisted. Like nikkas gonna just be ripping Magic Johnson

just heard this stat on His & Hers.

I mean, I know the game today is different compared to Bird's era, but :scusthov: those numbers are just filthy.

How can anyone deny the greatness we're seeing?

I don't wanna hear about this ever again.
chef curry is my boy and all . but lets keep things within context of the eras.

all this stat means is that due to analytics and the no touch rule beyond the perimeter. has forced guys to take more threes then ever. if bird NEEDED to take that many 3's. he would have. but he didnt. and he still has a ton of rings

but they are much worse at posting up. zero back to the basket game. the game has turned into run and gun. pick n roll. run and gun...thats it

That's because defenses aren't too stupid to load up against good post players anymore, offenses know how to drag fat post players out to the 3pt-line and make them a defensive liability, and smart coaches have realized that even good post players are less efficient per possession than the myiad other ways of getting a basket.

A big man who is good at post play isn't going to do crap in the league unless he can protect the rim and move well on defense too. Remember Omar Samhan? Unlikely. Only the very greatest can live off of post play alone now.

There are still good reasons to be good at post play, but it's an asset to have on the side, not something to live off of anymore.

And run and gun? The average team takes fewer shots per game right now than in ANY year between 1950 and 1994, even though they turn the ball over way less often too. Defenses are way tougher on a night-to-night basis and teams work much harder to get a good shot. In the 1980s, teams averaged 10-15 more possessions a game than they do now. It's LESS run-and-gun now, not more.

I know, that's what Im saying. Bird and Steph have no business in the same sentence. One is a certified legend, whos impact in the game can't be denied and has done things that no other player has ever even dreamed of, and the other one is Larry Bird.
Almost negged u cuz I thought u were doing the reverse. Good thing I took my time lol
