I think this is more about celebrity and pop culture than raising awareness of als...a famous person does something and others see it and think: hey I'm famous (doesnt matter if they are or not) i should be doing that too...the point is celebs cosigning other celebs...it is necessary for them to do this so that the appeal of fame doesn't diminish in the eyes of ordinary people...
