By the time the bible was written it was common to keep slaves. Almost every nation has kept slaves throughout history, and many African nations had a slaveholding piece in their society.

Slavery was a normal part of life at the time, and the type of slavery was not the demonic kind that we associate with Arabs and Europeans. Do some research on the different societies that held slaves and what slavery meant to them. In any case, when it comes to slavery, it is a test--like many other difficulties in life of a person's spirit and integrity. Between the man who fed and clothed his slaves, and gave them opportunities for freedom and the man who viciously beat his slaves and traumatized them, which one do you think would be more justified in feeling that he should go to heaven?

This was at a time before we had the technology of today, and when classes were sharply divided. There was no middle class. You were either a warrior, merchant, producer, or a slave. Many times slaves were captured warriors who could be used as security forces or labourers. Its a lot deeper than people think. Don't get it twisted, I am most definitely NOT co-signing the idea of a man owning another human being.

i'm not asking about bronze age economic demographics. I'm asking about the god of the bible condoning slavery.
