White people There are black anime are dressing up as Asian characters and aren't getting shyt for doing that :comeon:
It is what it is. Many whites can throw on a wig and pull off the look because of their skin tone. A brother dressing up like Naruto just looks crazy in most cases. If knowing that they're gonna do it anyway then that's their choice.

There are black characters in mainstream media that are options. There are even black anime characters that are options. If people wanna pull off cosplay and get props for it they should do characters they can match the look of.

So according to ya'll, if we dress up as fictional characters, where the color of their skin isn't integral to the character, we can only dress up as Black characters, which leaves us with relatively few options?

Or we "shouldn't be participating in that bullshyt" and "deserve every bit of ridicule, scorn, and laughter?"

fukk outta here, Black cosplayers can dress up as anything they want to and don't deserve to be made fun of for being Black. fukk what racist CACs think.

The point of cosplay is to fashion yourself like and look like a given character. skin color being an integral part of the character is irrelevant to skin color being an integral part of the look of a character. I'm not into cosplay but if I was I would select someone I could pull the look off to. Perhaps that makes me weird but to me that's what makes a good cosplay. To me the best cosplays match the look of the character as closely as possible and not just the clothing but the entire way the character looks physical traits included.

As a black anime fan I'm well aware there aren't many black characters in anime. It doesn't really bother me because I don't expect a country where 98.5% of the population is Japanese native and looks the part and the vast majority of those people have likely never even seen a black person in person to suddenly start creating black or even other minority characters.

There are other forms of media besides anime with a higher count of diverse characters.

Real people don't look like anime characters even if their skin tone is similar. "Thick Samus" doesn't match Samus's body type but she doesn't get shyt for it. I wonder why.

I don't expect the japanese to draw african characters. What I do expect is that in America people be treated with respect regardless of skin color. By your logic, black people in America should only dress as their favorite basket ball or football player for halloween.

Im gonna be clear. Cosplay is crazy corny to me period, and even more so when its a black person trying to dress up as a white person. But I can deal with corny.
What I don't like, is the non-black cosplayers shaming black cosplayers simply because of their skin. If people of color were properly represented they wouldn't have to dress up as these white characters. Its funny because I catch people all the time. If you say "How come there can't be more black super heroes" people will respond with "Why does skin color matter." But go to one of these cornball conventions as a black tony stark and they hit you with the "Wrong COLOR!" :mjpls:
So which one is it. Does color matter or not?

One of those is a casual holiday a large number of people cerebrate and the other is people going to conventions with hardcore nerds and geeks critiquing each other on looking like characters.

If you're a black man and you go to a convention dressed as Goku you're gonna stick out like a sore thumb. If you're a white man and you go to a convention dressed as Tosen from Bleach you'd probably get the same weird looks.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it I'm saying the the reactions are to be expected when you have physical traits that clash with how the character looks.

That's a terrible cosplay IMO. She's got too much weight on her to pull that off. My guess is people don't give a shyt about the cosplay itself they're just looking at her like I'd smash.

I don't care what anyone says, cosplaying is lame to me, especially when it's of a character that doesn't resemble your race in the slightest.

There are tons of black characters you can cosplay as. I saw one Black Panther cosplay that was dope.

It's basically what cosplays have turned into. Women in skimpy outfits looking for attention from dudes they would never let sniff the p*ssy. I've been to a few and some of these girls are walkin around in short ass shorts with their p*ssy lips hanging out around 5 year olds.
