Cali is super overpriced homes + lower valuations when you sell as a black person unless you erase everything about you in the house. A 500k discrepancy could easily have you underwater and force you to hold or sell at a loss if you can’t wait.

I will give you that. A friend of mine was actually nervous about the appraisal process for this very reason. She's in Atlanta, appraiser ended up being black.

They are right and they should go with another appraiser, and that appraiser should lose business and issue a refund … but how is that a lawsuit?

An appraiser is typically licensed in the state and governed. If they have evidence of foul play by the appraiser they can contact the licensing agency/state and file a compliant for damages.

I'm not a real estate appraiser but I do auto appraisals and licensed in NYS , many people tried to go after my license because they thought I was low balling their property on purpose and even sent lawsuits to my company tryna say I did it on purpose and was in collusion with the repair shops or insurance companies. I.E fraud.

When you appraiser you are suppose to come up to an independent assessment based on substantiated facts and documents. Using race as a determination is barred in most cases and can become a federal case

I refinance my crib this summer thru BOA.

however, the appraiser I got was black luckily.
