No rappers mentioned it in their raps?

Should’ve found a way to tap into the whole “boots on the ground”, black rodeo, black country/cowboy aesthetic…makes me wonder how Beyoncé’s SirDavis brand is doing :jbhmm:, and if they were competitors in the space….the completely superficial and arbitrary nature of “urban” alcohol trends has always been funny to me….I’ve lived through so many eras and it’s wild how little it takes to for some brands to take off….Don Julio repesado has our people in a chokehold currently and fukking Cutwater went from being just some random can amongst many in any gas station cooler to all of sudden the popping drink trend of the summer because of TikTok astroturfing…if liq were rappers it’d be called a plant :mjlol:

Just had the Cutwater Long Island this weekend for the first time. I had never heard of it but people were hyping it up. And I see why, the shyt was 13 percent alchohol...

Uncle Nearest story sucks tho. Now some big liquor company gets to buy up the brand recognition for pennies on the dollar. That's the problem with taking other people's money. They tried to play games with Diddy , Jay and 50 too so this shouldn't be surprising

Reading more about this, it looks like the family was more interested in clout and stunting than actually making good whisky. It sucks because now the Nearest Green name will now be associated with fraud and scamming. :snoop:
The liquor is quality. Just about everything they put out has been great so far. I only dislike the Rye one, but that's personal preference since I have never had a Rye that I liked.

It really sucks because their distillery and bar was really coming along. I've been there 3 times and it was a different experience each time.

I have not worked in whiskey but have in a similar industry. A few things stand out:

Liquor and wine typically have issues with too much working capital tied up in inventory as sales decline. If you age spirits 6 months for example you should have six months barrel inventory minimum at all times. That would be almost $50m worth for Uncle Nearest.

If the lender claims they were short barrels either they were selling faster than they could keep up (good) or their sales peaked a long time ago and the inventory in distribution already is all that is paying them (bad). In the good scenario they have good positive cash flow to pay the loan, so maybe they peaked a year or two back and have had trouble paying since.

What is interesting is that during their boom they could've sold equity and paid off the debt, though losing some voting rights. They reportedly were turning away investors they were so oversubscribed in a funding round.

When the court takes over their fiancials will become public record. It will be interesting, though very saddening potentially.

Liquor relies on marketing so they had to be public but I always worry about Black folks who openly flaunt success. It is an unfair and wicked world we live in.
