Breh ima tell u straight up, everything is gon depend on wat area U in and wat type of people are in the chapter

If I were U I would do research on who’s in each orgs grad chapter in the area and also see wat events, philanthropy etc. they do. Wit grad chapter fr it’s grown men so all that stereotype 1 org as this etc etc goes out the window

and to answer your question bout the stigma, it’s usually not really about grad/undergrad, it’s usually paper vs made which I think mainly only younger bros care about.

Best advice is to jus do your research on the chapters in your area and decide from there

This.

There are networking opportunities. The people who say there aren't are usually the type of people that high performers don't want want network with. When I launched one of my businesses, my brothers patronized and supported it as clients. My brothers are my financial advisers, accountants, insurance brokers, business coaches, and more

And we're all Black so the money stays in house longer.

That network shyt is overrated. I never joined a frat and networked with people from frats because I was cool with some of these people before they pledged. Plus if you have some networking contacts that benefit them then all that frat shyt out the door

Because a lot of us don't GAF about that shyt and depending on where you live you won't see a Black frat at all. As a Californian, it seems like that's more of a southern tradition.
I think it depends how active you are in college life.

School Daze and Different World inspired a lot of black kids to attend college, and you're right there was a big migration to attend hbcus.

Yet again that's because those college where all black and would offer a different experience than the typical and traditional University. So of course black frats where more prominent in the South.

But they do have black frats in California, if you as a black student where interested.

be 29 and wanna join a greek inspired group of men where getting paddled on the ass is a requirement for membership brehs
Dude needs to drop that shyt and look into orgs more suited for him like 100 Black Men

Hell if there ain’t a chapter at his school all he has to do is reach out and say he’d like to he a founder. It’s full of black professionals and frat dudes nationwide.

There’s beaucoup prime networking opportunities for black men out there if you know what you’re looking for. You DO NOT need to join a frat either.

For example if brehs an engineer there’s the black engineer society or if he’s accounting there’s black accountant societies among other things.

OP just needs to put himself out there and ask around, really get after it

All that frat shyt is weird as hell to me. I’m cool with some dudes in frats but beyond that it just ain’t for me.

I think frats akin to the pride some people in the high school or church they went to or some shyt

Those orgs exist to sustain themselves anyways and pretty much most of their “community service” is performative and required by the higher ups to maintain their status of whatever the fukk

Y'all are wilding saying the networking thing is overplayed or a myth. There's a gang of networking that happens when you both belong to the same Greek organization. Going through the same rite of passage as someone else opens the door for people to want to do things to help you out, a lot of times more than belonging to an organization where you just sign up and pay dues.

With that said, of course, it's 100% not the only way to go about it and isn't for everybody. It makes perfect sense that someone would see joining a frat as not their thing. 100 Black Men and those types of organizations are also great and have plenty of networking opportunities.

But it also doesn't have to be an either/or thing. All of these organizations serve a purpose and it's a matter of choice at the end of the day.

I mean why not do both? Not sure why brehs hate so hard on frats. I work in marketing/advertising but I hear you on those orgs as well.

I'm just aligning with purpose and I know mentorship and expanding my network of older likeminded black folk especially other brehs who are also under mentorship is important. Its that last missing piece for me, so im looking into all options beyond what I already do.

There’s always gone be a segment of them who look at you different for going grad, but at the end of the day that don’t matter. The networking you’ll get from doing this is worth it. I’m a grad pledge

The purpose of a fraternity is to sustain the organization once the fukkery gets old it’s all politics - you’ll quickly see why once you’re inside.

Do you want to have a network of black men engulfed in politics and you being obligated to support that organization? If so then go for it. But I’m telling you it’a not really that different on the outside. You can find black mentorship and network with older established if you apply yourself a bit more. There’s many organizations out there without the politics.

The only thing a frat does it make some people easier to get in contact with and have a shared commonality. But at the end of the day it’s still 100% voluntary and a lot of frat dudes don’t even network within their circles like that once they’ve graduated.

I’m legit telling you that you found find and involve everything you want without needing to pledge to a fraternity.

I’m a Que. Came in through a grad chapter. I can’t speak for other frats but there’s not really a stigma or separation for people that come in through grad as opposed to undergrad. I mean yeah, someone might have something to say every now and then but by and large if you know what you know and carry yourself accordingly, Bruhz recognize Bruhz and it’s all good.

Yo so like my old roommate and a few of my friends are Ques

So you coming to the “Clave” (or how ever y’all spell it) next year down here in Charlotte?

For sure, breh. The Clave is what bruhz look forward to most because it's a great time to network and fellowship with frat from all over the country. I definitely intend to be there. It's going to be a live one too since COVID shut down the previous one.
