Eeeeeeeeeh Well think about it- if it’s a common occurrence/reaction one needs to evaluate the environment, situations and pressures those young women are placed in without guidance and protection. The world eats up young pretty girls a million times a day because that’s the nature of the beast.
Everyone wants a piece of young women when you’re young and beautiful and haven’t learned how to navigate around power.
The situations a 15, 17, 19YO are placed in ain’t the same as women who are like 30 or 40. Life comes at you very differently.
Plenty of men tried to game me when I was in college/early 20s. I mean they were coming from every corner. But the men in my family looked at me and knew what was coming (lol) so they gave me the heads up about authority figures trying to hold power over my head, married men and men who are “legally separated” trying to holla at me, guy friends who ain’t really friends, just waiting for their chance to slip in, etc. So I knew when to walk/run away when situations starting turning into the stuff my family warned me about. And I still made mistakes and got caught up, but I avoided 97% of the BS and horror stories because they gamed me up.
I told stories on here about college professors telling me I needed to sleep with them for an A and I was like “nikka what” lmao You know how many freshmen girls that prolly worked on, because they were afraid of a man in power? It hit different for me because I could pick up the phone and call another university where I had my own relatives who were professors. But you know what? Those power games work on other young girls all the time.
That’s why Tyra Banks’ mother traveled with her until she was like 24/25. She saw all those underaged models getting used by grown ass men. Ppl ship their daughters away and don’t think about the guys waiting around the corner.
Same reason Bey’s parents were on top of her well into adulthood. They are the reason she’s one of the only stars from her generation to make it to icon/legend status. None of the same pitfalls and distractions as everyone else.
She even married one of the top musicians and kept pushing because she wanted to solidify her own legacy.
I just say all that to say…the modeling industry is just as bad as any other entertainment sector when it comes to treatment of young women. A 19YO college student is “legal” but hasn’t had enough real life experience to navigate the modeling world.
Most of those girls were discovered in HS and their parents ship them off to “work” not knowing (or sometimes they do know) that the very agency/scout they are trusting is introducing their 16YO daughters to 30+ YO men.
