My Hispanic coworker is building a website for one of our clients who is asian, and he found stock photos to use on her website. The women he used were Hispanic. She asked for him to not use Hispanic women. He told me he felt some type of way about it, but he never said anything and continued to do the project.

I told him if any client told me not to use black people on their website, I would tell my client I'm not the person for this job.

But, I eat sushi.

Does that make me whitewashed?

It’s always got to be two extremes with us and corporate America smh. We got to either be acting “white” dressing and talking like Eddie Griffin in Undercover Brother or we got to be on some hiphop shyt with people smh. What about the black folks that fall in the middle? I mean I work for a tv news station and the black folks I work with can be themselves with no problems. We talk hiphop and comic books and all kinds of shyt. We can wear hoodies to work or pretty much dress how we want. Do some of the white folks look at us crazy? And you gotta be pretty decent in math to get in there in west place, so most likely you will barely have any black classmates in high school your junior / senior year

A person who attended Howard, Morehouse, Hampton, Spellman is definitely different then one who attended Grambling, Morgan, Coppin, Pvam, Norfolk, DSU

I went to an HBCU and yes there is an unspoke level of tiers. everyone knows if you're familiar with HBCUS.

They are only considered White washed when they do not relate to African-American culture. You’re making a ton of assumptions about the claims made in the article and about my post. I basically said...corporations accept White diversity but not African-American diversity.

American corporations typically hold Anglo Saxon Protestant customs and values as the archetype of professional culture hence why anyone who embodies African-American culture is looked at as not professional.

- Is your name Terquasia? NOT PROFESSIONAL.
- Do you wear corn rows? NOT PROFESSIONAL.
- Do you say “man they trippin’” instead of “I think there is confusion amongst that group of individuals”. NOT PROFESSIONAL.

I gave someone dap at work and some White VP went to HR about me because he said he didn’t understand what me and the other Black person did. That’s because anything that deviates from Anglo Saxon culture is deemed unprofessional and unacceptable.

All this other stuff you’re talking about is baggage you have. Being Nerdy or Gothic doesn’t mean you are not in tuned with African-American culture. The problem is when you don’t relate to Martin or you don’t know about Malcolm X but you know all about George Washington and Seinfeld. I grew up a Black nerd and still am to a degree and no one questions my Blackness cuz I’ll drop some Malcolm X quotes on they ass in a second.

I know but it’s still pretty much a corporate setting. I know this thread is about Google but people try to apply these principles to every job that’s somewhat corporate. Everybody don’t have to live like the person in the article said though.
