:patrice:I thought the Ummah wasn't supposed to be concerned with race, which is why you can't draw pictures of Muhammad PBUH or else they'll kill you.

Islam does not prohibit people from loving and honoring their heritage. What is prohibited is to become boastful/arrogant and to degrade others on account of their heritage/class/race etc..

Our differences in color and language are to be celebrated and Allah mentions them as one of His Divine signs in the Quran.

Teaching African Muslims of their heritage is not divisive.

Also, this is supposed to counter racism. If it wasn't because some Arab Muslims had actively suppressed this knowledge and kept it from us, it would not have been necessary to even bring this up.

Most Arabs, Asians etc in this day and age are unaware that some of the most important figures in our history were black. They think that only Bilal was black and they tend to emphasize his slave past every time they mention him, as if to equate blackness with slavery :camby:

Bilal was more than "just" a former slave, by the way.

Notice how companions like Salman Al-Farisi (freed Persian slave) and Suhayb Al-Rumi (freed Roman slave) are not even that known for their slave past, but we always hear about Bilal (Ethiopian freed slave). :stopitslime:

I'll post some stuff about West African Muslim history here as well, since most of the Muslim brehs here are of WA descent.

Some WA rulers had Arab court jesters and slaves :banderas:

West African history is quite impressive in general.
