online. :martel:

I wish them shyts look comfortable, that would be tight. shoalin monk style. maaaan dont nobody dress like that here, what do you think this is Mao days or something cmon now lol

NBA is huge. Tracy McGrady plays for a team right next door, that fool is a celebrity here. He lives in my province got a crib and everything.

and I believe gambling is legal. I know it is in Macau, I don't see casinos around here tho.

I live in a coastal city so yea, the beaches are pretty off the hook. I'd post a pic but my vpn is down, I see whats up when I get home (US) next week.

gambling is illegal is mainland china, my grandfather went to jail for it. That's why macau is like 5x the revenues of vegas, everyone goes there for gambling. I'm glad you can have an open mind in a foreign country and not shyt on it like other people. A lot of chinese people are going back to China after their parents left when it was still a fukked up country.

I think china has a long way to go, especially in the human rights area, the stigma is still extremely strong for preferring sons. Its hard to find a good job in china, my cousin graduated from university there and works in a toll booth and thats considered a great government job. A bunch of my family got sterilized by the government after having a couple of kids, its real. China is still fukked up in a lot of areas, really fukked up. Being a foreigner is probably all nice there since you have more money.

btw. she's gotten a lot more popular and famous since the initial shock. she has since warmed the peoples hearts and single handedly started a very important discussion in china and in some ways opened a lot of minds to a different way of thinking.

are you taiwanese or from hong kong by any chance?

I wouldn't say jobs are hard to get, but well paying jobs are. like doctors don't make anything, I was shocked to hear that. that's where the whole communism thing comes into play I think. they're keeping it as level as possible, not sure why tho. still have to learn more before speaking on it.

good to know gambling is illegal, that's probably why I don't see casinos. I'd never thought about it since I don't believe gambling. I figured it might have been only because I know macau it is. it's like asking if it's legal in america, well, kinda, like places in vegas and indian resorts so yea I guess it is. but really it's not.

You know you can pay the extra tax to have more kids right? it's not bank breaking.

there's a lot of things china needs to fix, don't get me wrong. I can go on and on about it. like the lack of guideline following. slow auditing, somethings are awful and very third world country. china def has a long way to go.

There's Han, and Cantonese speakers. What's the dynamic between the two? I was listening to a radio program on people from Hong Kong not liking Chinese mainland nationals, because a lot of them go to Hong Kong to have their babies there, which entitles their kids to Hong Kong benefits. Here's a video of a Hong Kong woman chastising a mainlander for eating on the subway

I should also add a little more insight on the censorship - it sounds real bad to most, Its like wtf no facebook, no youtube? :mindblown: but you have to remember these are sites we grew up on, these are OUR sites. They have their own version of sites like these. they have no 'urge' to jump on facebook or any feeling of missing out. they didnt grow up on it, I have the urge because im american, but they dont.
over here theres a big program called wechat, everybody uses this. but when I go home, nobody does, and I start feeling like wtf how come we aint got this shyt over here? but then I remember, its a chinese/HK company of course nikkas arent interested in it, thats sort of how it is when it comes to our programs, sites etc. but cacs and western asians will be like :ohh: check this censorship out, they blocking them off from learning democracy, they're not yielding to our influence. why dont they just let them go on facebook whats the deal, but then ask that same cac why he doesn't start going on chinese sites and he'd be like "wtf for?"

you see?

and it's not like the chinese can't go around it, everyone can, they just dont lol. its mostly us expats that do to keep in touch with home virtually.

on the chinese facebook, chinese twitter and chinese we chat, trust me, they talk just as much shyt about their govt as we do. its also monitored, just like the feds are monitoring our internet. lets not make it seem like :ohh: china is any different than us. you just need to put things into perspective. whenever you hear "chinese police beat down rioters" remember in NYC and Oakland when PD was firing tear gas on OWS protestors. never forget that when your govt is pointing fingers at a far away land, saying what they're doing is wrong, sit back and think...wait arent you doing the same to us? its their clever way of distracting you from your own reality.
The china smak site is a site i go to. Its like the Chinese worldstar.

man that site is awful lol.

they do nothing but choose the worst of the worst articles, comments and videos than plaster that shyt on facebook for the world to see. and then you wonder why the govt be shutting people down. :russ:

its def the worldstar of china. the chinese be on some :snoop: just like black folks when they go on worldstar :pachaha: thats why Im not totally against censorship, half the time I wish wshh would get shut down for its' buffoonery.

there was one article/photo on there, with a kid taking a dump on a subway. my homegirl took that picture. :pachaha:

No, my family is from the fujian province. I think if you grew up in China, you'll have a whole different perspective on things, a more local perspective. Granted I haven't been back in a couple of years, I still have a lot of connections there. One of my family member ranks very highly in the government. Basically, if you got money and considering the cheap standard of living there, it's all gravy, if you a regular local citizen, then being a toll booth operator is considered an amazing job.

Mainland girl eating caused controversy within Hong Kong MTR - YouTube

Cantonese people are from south china, that would be those people Ive been talking about from Guangzhou, the hardened chinese. they have a lot more history with foreigners, esp since HK and many ports down there were occupied and were trading posts. They're very good at selling, they could sell teeth to a shark. they also eat everything. in the 19th century they had the highest number of interracial marriages with people from all over the world.

I don't know much about HK and Mainland rivalry. HK is now a part of China, I'm in the north no where near the south, so I don't really get ground level coffee shop political discussions about it. I know there's some rivalry tho. I'm mostly familiar with the beef between taiwan and japan.

you're right.

that's why I can only comment on how it is to be a black american in china (see title), not chinese. i dont live the same life as a lot of people, and the chinese that I am in contact with are obv well educated and have well paying jobs. regular local citizens rarely speak english and are the people that are staring at me like :gladbron:. the most information I get, are from other chinese, and I always keep in mind that it's bias to some extent.

I get questions pretty much every time I log in. I figure instead of derailing threads, you lot could post your questions here. Feel free to ask away.

I'll just answer the typical questions right off the bat.

I've been living here for a year. Travel to Korea every 3 months for a weekend. I'm here for awhile (I've been a nomad for a few years now). and I work as a part-time teacher, graphic designer (american agency partnering) and this year plan on getting into Sino-African trading. I live in Shandong province which is pretty much like the bay area of China. My city visually is like San Fran without the hills.

Do chinese women like black men? people like people, people also have preferences, like every where else. If you're attractive (this doesn't only mean physical, this can mean charming, funny etc), you won't have problems any where in the world.

Are there other black people? in my city not so much. Guangzhou is where most africans are, they have about 200k, even a little district dubbed "chocolate city", GZ is massive, and also known to be a business hard around the edges hub. Shanghai and Beijing of course have loads of expats. around here tho, Im probably the only AA (of course I dont know everybody theres 8 mil people but im pretty active), there were 2 others, but they have since left to other parts of china. I have african friends tho, in fact my neighbor is cameroonian. Do I get stares? every day, every place, 247 without fail. Why did I choose china? I visited a friend in 09', loved the place and decided to move after an awful year in Vancouver.

How often do I go home? once a year, however this year I will be going twice, in fact I'm going home next monday for a month.

Do I speak chinese? No. I've been in class for 2 months now, prior to that, I just used a translator, or always had someone that spoke chinese with me. All else fails I could just call someone and hand the phone over. With a smart phone tho, in this day and age, you can do a lot. I have 3 translators and a program that can read chinese for me by taking a picture of the text.

anyways. thats all I can think of for now.

Do the Asian guys get jelly when they see you with an Asian gal ?

Do you speak Cantonese and Mandarin, if so, how long did it take you to learn those languages?

oh yea
Have they ever tried to fight you ?

no. chinese are more passive aggressive, they'll just try to snatch a broad clean off your hip lol. Ive seen it so many times. :ana: I just leave it up to the girl, usually she'll tell them to fukk off, but if you didn't seal that, you may just lose her.

no one has tried to physically harm me here.
