Damn DR has a statue of Christopher Columbus? :wow:

Crazy how different DR and Haiti are. Dominicans view Spain as the motherland while Haitians are very in touch with their Africaness

THis is the Neg Mawon statue in Haiti. Honoring the pre-revolution rebel slaves. "Neg Mawon" means "wild/untamed negro" from the spanish term "Cimarron" which translates into the french term "marron" or "marronnage".

The only Christopher statue we have is that of Henri Christophe. Emperor of Haiti in mid 1800s

In all that I've read and seen Afro-Brazilians seem to be the one segment of the Diaspora you can draw the best parallel if you will to compare to Afro-Americans. I think they're also the two that have the most to teach and learn from one another. stay tuned
