A Latino is anyone who speaks a Romance language as a mother tongue, or comes from an ethnic group which does. French, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish etc are all Latin languages. Brazilians, Portuguese, French, Haitians, Spaniards, Italians etc are Latinos. Not just people who speak the Spanish Language.

The Amistad revolt
In January 1839, 53 African natives were kidnapped from eastern Africa and sold into the Spanish slave trade. They were then placed aboard a Spanish slave ship bound for Havana, Cuba.
Once in Havana, the Africans were classified as native Cuban slaves and purchased at auction by two Spaniards, Don Jose Ruiz and Don Pedro Montez. The two planned to move the slaves to another part of Cuba. The slaves were shackled and loaded aboard the cargo schooler Amistad (Spanish for "friendship") for the brief coastal voyage.

African slaves were taken all over the globe. Not just to the English speaking countries. The Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch all had African slaves.

Lewis Black, what is the name of the Cuban Boxing documentary you refered to? African Americans are the most dominant but I'll go out on a limb and say Afro Cubans are the best athletes I've seen outside on the USA.
Dominicans are so dominant in Baseball because it's so much a part of their culture and the whole superstar latino player system seems to be encouraged by the MLB. I dont know much about baseball though, But if African American youth put as much energy/time into it as they do basketball, they'd dominate it easily.
