The wording is off because you can't just 'fire' a Marine. The article says he had numerous positions and is no longer active as a recruiter so the assumption is just that he's been relieved from being a recruiter to appease and not kicked out of the military.

yes but basically he got a GOMAR General officer letter of Repremand so not fired from the military but career basically over. hell serve a couple of years and be out.

The furthermore, I don't think A government entity like the Dod can just fire people for what they say the way a private corporation can. They're actually held by the first amendment in a way that wellsfargo or apple aren't.


I think they're exceptions for protected classes of people where You can't disparage them while being in a position of power. But I don't think mocking somebody's death exceeds the limits of the first amendment. That would be a pretty big lawsuit.
