"Black" is a broader term than "African." Melanesians and Native Australians often consider themselves Black, but they are not Africans.
Of course they did. c00n Charlemagne always has to make light of the situation because they need that check... Its like whoa horsey hold on there now. Can't be opening a nikkas eyes too much. Probably why Charlemagne had his phone upside down. His superiors probably was texting with the twitter fingers like you better crack some jokes there boy!Wonder if they realized exactly what he was saying and were trying to play it off?

As someone of Jamaican and Nigerian descent born and raised in the UK, this isn't a new concept to me or anyone around me. Not to throw shade but the only time I've ever heard a distinction between being black and being African-American is when I visit my family and spend time in the States.
Go anywhere else in the world and they don't care where you were born or where your family did or didn't originate from, you're just a black person to them![]()
Haven't watched...but both "African" & "Black" are ethnic designations placed on "us" by outsiders..."Africa" is named after a Roman general...actual "Africans" in "Africa" don't give a fukk about being "African" but identify themselves based on tribal lineage...most don't even give a fukk about those arbitrary lines Europeans drew around their land... their tribal ancestry trumps all.
And "black" is an ethnic designation for people of "African" descent who were disconnected from their heritage via the trans-atlantic slave trade...AA's, Carribeans, Afro-Latinos...not Yoroba's, Ashanti, Wolof, Fon, Fulani, Luba etc. Folks who know their tribal history and ancestry.
. Why are so many of you salty about your fellow black man when it's obvious you don't even interact with the subjects of your scorn in any meaningful or significant way IRL
?I didn't get him attackin AA culture as much as I got him attackin the packaged and contrived interpretation of AA or black culture that the corporate level of America pushes out there. This the bullshyt jealous slick talk I'm talking about. So mad no one acknowledges their culture they attack the authenticity of AA culture all while mimicking it.
And you decided that?Also...black is synonymous with AA.
It does not mean African![]()

You're welcome sistagoddess! Thanks for sharing this interview! Also, threads like this are why I had to quit lurking (after 2 years) and join the Coli. Y'all play around a lot, but then there are gems like this. It's nice to see, in contrast with the negativity on the news and the many stereotypes and ignorant views I battle everyday as a black woman (in a majority white city), "in real life."

This is not true at all.
Black and African(descended) to me are and should be synonimous."Black" is a broader term than "African." Melanesians and Native Australians often consider themselves Black, but they are not Africans.
