Black Women havent been “propped up”’more then men. They just were set for the changing world than Black men.
Black men came up in this country still have the mindset of my father in law who finished HS, came up north, got a job as a bus driver and on his salary was able to buy a home and take care of his family. Black men historically made it in this country through the manufacturing industry while the only alternative for Black women other than being a domestic was to go to finish school. The manufacturing sector in this country has died since the early 80s and Black men collectively have yet to make the adjustment. Meanwhile, Black women, who if even raised in the hood would outpace Betty from the trailer park, kept plugged along at school and are see the results.
William Julius talks about this in his 1996 book “When Work Disappears” and foresaw the despair of Black men that would result.
