Explain the "grand scheme of things"...
Fully..
$10k like a decade+ ago goes muuuuch further than it does now.
House prices are through the roof, and with the average home costing $3-400k and depending on credit, requiring 10-20% down, $10k is a start but it's not really the deal breaker.
Tuition is through the roof, especially if the student is going out of state. Again, ten to fifteen years ago it would've put a dent in a years room and board.
Now? Lol.
Rent is definitely where you can apply $10k n do good, or maybe pay off a car note.
I just don't understand the pushback against something that will vary by the household.
I got two brothers in my circle, and one would take that money n cry tears of joy.
The other would take it with a sigh n add it to the pile he's already spending on his daughter's wedding this fall.
Neither is wrong for that reaction, they're just in different places.
