If I'm honest with you though, OP, I don't how to mentally sustain the attitude of being less materialistic without having to then fight constant resistance from others. How do you achieve this when you are "that" person amongst your family and friends?

After leaving the USA for 3 years and living in some developing countries, then coming back, I had become "that" person. Predictably, this made me alienating to my friends and family who got tired of hearing about my experiences. And I ask in sincerity how you are able to maintain and live such a belief if you are the only one in your circle to think so. Does the resistance not exhaust you eventually?

I agree in a sense, but entertainment literally serves its own purpose; to entertain. It’s hard to say the entertainment subject matter has to be “constructive” when entertainments sole purpose is to make everyone momentarily happy.

Maybe it’s just a question of values over all rather than just what makes us “laugh” needing to have a broader purposes
