Black people: why aren't we becoming dentist

The same reason there aren't that many Black doctors, or hard-science PhDs, its difficult to get into the school, you have to keep up your grades in undergrad, take heavy science and math classes, ensure you get shadowing and clinical volunteering hours, do well on the admissions test, and keep up the workload over the next 4- 6 years after undergrad to ensure you get licensed and graduate, while your peers are starting their lives, partying away, and enjoying life.
It pays well, same as medicine, but most don't want to put the effort in.
Alongside this, most Black high schools don't prepare kids properly for the hard science and math classes they'll take when they first get into college.
That's why schools like Xavier of Louisiana are so important.

I had a black woman dentist before and ironically enough, the other staff there was asian/spanish women.

it may be expensive but you are guaranteed to make that money back 5 fold, and make so much money in the process. Understand very ffew dental is covered by insurance and they rape people in prices Never met an out of work dentist who aint pay back they loans in a surprisingly fast rate.

My last dentist was a black women but she moved away to start her own practice, she took care of me tho. Recommend a colleague that's been my dentist since, beautiful Latina chick and all her dental hygienist are

My dentist is black. She does excellent work and owns the practice also. Most of the dentists in my area are either indian or white.

i am going to graduate with a degree in accounting. then i will have to take another 10 classes for medical prereqs. So i have at least another 2 years til i even applybut i think that i would want to be either an er doc or a surgeon. only thing is that the surgery residency is 5 years at least last time i checked. my main school will be here in little rock. will be surprised if i don't get into that one on the first try. they want smart black males and i will have the grades and the mcat to back it up.

A lot of people don't want to deal with nasty stank breath and rotting teeth. A lot of black people I know don't even go to the dentist after a certain age unless their tooth hurts.

I personally haven't been in a year, since I got my wisdom teeth pulled. I usually go once a year. This thread just reminded me to make an appointment.


There should be more black dermatologist too.

I personally do not want to be anything that requires me to stay in school for 8 more years. I'll only stay for 2 after undergrad, and not right after either. I don't like school like that. The loans too, so much debt.
