For clarification, anyone can post to the BlackPeopleTwitter subreddit but mods have the ability to restrict certain threads to verified black/POC users only. There's a number of flaws with their system though.

For one, you can easily fake a forearm pic with say Photoshop, being darker-skinned but still white, or just paying some dude on Fiverr.

I don't go hard against the POC designation, but allowing them to post in "Country Club" mode defeats the purpose of having a safe space for black people to converse.

And of course there's the obvious issue with giving away personal details to Internet strangers. Why would I prove my blackness to a mod team that's most likely lily-white themselves? There's probably a good couple of those mods chuckling about making black folks jump thru hoops for abilities that's automatically granted to them.

If something like that were implemented here, I don't think it would matter much. As convenient as it is to blame it all on white infiltrators, there's a good amount of black folk both on here and in real life that are backwards, ignorant, and straight up lost. The only meaningful change would be that certain posters would know for sure whether to call someone a "cac" or a "c00n" when they disagree with that person.

Want to avoid blackface? Go to the goddamn park

yet white supremacists do exactly that for however long they can.:stopitslime:

not too many people willing to pay and put effort towards passing themselves off as black. if it serves as a monetary barrier, so be it. metafilter.com has a $5 signup fee that thwarts & trolls spammers to great effect.

the point is they have to put in some time consuming effort to be able to misrepresent themselves and that is something proven to be an effective deterrent for many.

We should do that here on the coli... maybe have a tag or check mark by peoples named that they are verified Black.... there should also be a "Cac" tag or "Suspected Cac" tag.
