Wiser action wouldve been to deal with the source of the problem. Messican dude was clearly acting out and feeding off the attention of his peers; so dealing with his class first (by dismissing the other students from the room or by ridiculing the kid to his peers) wouldve easily diffused the situation and deprived mexican dude of the motivation to keep going. We all know he wouldn't be acting buck if he was by himself.
The way i see it, id compare this to defeating predator (bear/lion/tiger) by poisoning its food source; instead of fighting it directly from a disadvantageous position. Due to social ramifications, a teacher will always be disadvantaged in a direct fight with a student irrespective of who hits first. There are more creative fixes to these problems.

but you do have the right idea tho…but I would’ve asked the student to speak privately in the hallway…then we go outside, with me still keeping an eye on the class or at least remaining visible so they know that I’m watching them…usually that does the trick
and there are ways to ostracize distracting students from their classmates w/o ridiculing them in front of the class…ridiculing them never goes well and sometimes it can serve to alienate you from the class as students realize you are capable of treating them the same way, and they don’t respect it…another way (it takes some time tho) is to get them to buy into acting/behaving accordingly to the point that they will look down on this type of distracting behavior and ignore it…but again it really takes some time to instill that into a class

That was pathetic. Old ass barely did anything to that frail ass Mexican. A student his size would've folded him. Should be ashamed high-key to swing first and do that poorly
