Got to sit down and digest the album over the past few days...

Absolute fire! Probably the best solo Black Thought project and Danger Mouse did the damn thing.

Quick sidebar, I would love to hear Zach De Le Rocha on some Danger Mouse production :obama:

I see y'all ducking Elephant in the room about Black Thought's big flaw and flaws. I will make a thread about it and call it out later. And call y'all out later for it also...

Also y'all ducking how the last few Black Thought projects y'all praised came and went literally the next day...

Most of his solo projects have been EPs though, so it makes sense they'd not be talked about as much.

I agree. Hes a rapper I want to hate but he puts out some music I like lol. I hope he keeps going in a more boom bap style.
I think that’s his best move if he makes it. Chomp 1 and 2 are all I got by him but they’re really good. If he sticks with lyricism he’s gonna gain new fans

I don’t remember if I explicitly heard it on the album or if im imagining things but this album sounds lo fi purposely. I notice it’s coming back. I remember Blu doing Lofi in the 2010s

Him not writing hooks? being an elite song writer or lack of content/themes? Interested in hearing your take. I still think his delivery and lyricism is so great those other things he lacks don’t matter as much.

Black thought is so boring and monotonous, all these samples on the album have been used many times over, in the same style. The project with 9th wonder was better.

Nas, BT, and Pharoahe are top 3 DOA GOATs end of discussion. We can discuss the order and whatnot but those 3 are the beginning and end of MCing, rapping, and rhyming. It's not even fair how advanced and consistent they have been and continue to be.

All three would tell you they learned from Rakim and G Rap.

I'm not interested in the top 5 game. It's all opinion at the end of the day but y'all be going overboard with the hyperbole.

Anyway...

Album is cool but I'm not a big fan of Danger Mouse's production. Lyrically everyone delivered.

I like the album. Been a fan of Thought since '94, so I knew what to expect from him on here. I also like that he finally put together a proper solo. Everything else has been EP's or unreleased bootleg joints.

This is a cool project for him. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't expecting more though. I f*ck with Danger Mouse's beats, but he can be hit or miss sometimes. There are mad producers I would've liked to see BT do a full project with before Danger Mouse, but this is a solid album. I wasn't blown away by anything, but it's a good listen.
