Dilla is not the father of neo soul.
Chico debarge is the father of neo soul.

Anyway,...

This is cool cause real talk,....
Dilla did used to make his batch available around Xmas to new year's and the first time I encountered dilla in real life.
as a producer past the pharcyde credits.
Before the native tongues, ummah, and soul aquarians.
Was from dilla's early group demo production credit.
For a group called born unknown which was beej & e's.
or e's, who was named Shannon.
my best friend, nick in college roommates group.
[who looks just like the main character, lee the graf legend from wild style came to life out the movie, for real

My best friend in college was DJ head's best friend from Detroit.
So, I kinda feel in a roundabout way connected to that whole early Detroit movement.
Before ju even brought Eminem to the rap olympics.
I remember my best friend, nick in college being like yo,....i know the dopest rapper ever,...
His name is Eminem and he is white.
Then, i would be like,...dawg,...juice is murdering anyone in life.
So, he would be like nah,...and I would be like look I know the nikka who is the best for real, for real.
This white cat gotta be dope but he not seeing juice ever.
So, even back then it was like this,...oh I know the best type dialogue..that of course got settled twice who was right.
Anyway, when Shannon came back with the born unknown demo.
It was as next level in every possible way especially production wise.
That still to this day,...i have never heard anyone make beats as well as that early dilla born unknown demo.
I wish I had a copy but back then, but shannon was guarding that shyt with their collective group life and you literally.
had to like schedule with Shannon to hear the shyt.
You was not hearing this tape in a Walkman or unmonitored or none of that shyt.

I used to be in awe of born unknown and this tape and still to this day.
have never heard nuffin on that level, production wise ever.
I am not saying that because he is dead, I am saying since that day.
I never heard nobody that good.
When, I also got beats from aml who after dilla style was a Detroit staple sound wise. Aml was churning out material on that dilla level, in three rooms and from three different aml producers.
So, you go three times the dopeness submission wise.
Yet, nobody could see the originator, dilla.
nobody was as good as dilla in rap history.
as far as chopping and making sample based rap.
Dilla was the best at chopping and using a sample ever.
Plus, the best hands down to sample Michael Jackson ever, and I mean ever.

Damn I wish I had that tape.
