I like this one slightly more than Vol 1 too. 4 more songs on this but like the first, was over pretty quick. Black Thought still razor sharp:ohlawd:

Hope we still get that next Roots album in the future

Peep what Salaam said about building the track with the MC vs just throwing something already made and putting an over-emphasis on the beat and drowning out the vocals.
Kids dont even get it
Exactly. The emcee is the star. There are beats that good for beat battles or impressing production nerds like myself, and then there are beats that are dope but are also tailored to have the rapper as the main attraction. A lot of producers overcook the beat and do too much with it. I like how the beats on this project here have a lot of space and room for Thought to get in the pocket and stay there.

For whatever reason I've also noticed Thought seems to pick a lot of break-beat style tracks. That was especially true on Volume 1. . I like it but I'd also like to hear him over some more melodic stuff (That's why Thank You was my favorite track on there), and it seems like he did more of that here on Volume 2.

How the hell people are still sleeping on this? Thought is easily top 3 out there right now but the production from Salaam Remi is really :ohlawd:

somewhere between a pair of D cup tiddies
I'm convinced Black Thought could possibly be the best rapper alive.

Like, if someone said "Black Thought is a top 5 rapper", I couldn't even begin to hate:hubie:
I resigned to that fact some years ago.
I'm more inclined to be the guy saying it now.
Dude has quietly put out the most consistent catalogs of rhymes for decades now.
Got a Hall of Fame level band backing him, the whole Roots story is some wild, unique and inspiring shyt.
Been watching it unfold this whole time has been :banderas::blessed:
I need to see 'em live again:mjcry:

One of the greatest shows I've ever seen. I missed them once or twice when they came to my town so I HAD to catch their set when I was at Soundset 2016. I missed when they brought out Sa-Roc though. Can't remember who I went to see next.
