So you think a person that commits three non violent drug offenses should go to jail for life?

The problem boils down to the war on drugs which started in the 70s with Nixon and reached a boiling point in the mid 90s. Bill Clinton made some big mistakes in how he responded to unprecedented rise in violence especially in the inner cities. He felt the pressure to do something to curb the violence and they created bad policies that worked in the short-term to appease people, but looking back had a disastrous legacy. I compare America's irrational and disproportionate reaction to drugs, to our irrational and disproportionate reaction to terrorism. In both cases, home, we tried to kill flys in our house with sledgehammers and ended up causing major damage to our house.

Bill Clinton made mistakes and has apologized for them. Unlike the split the votes crowd, I don't think it was intentional. Just badly thought out policies with unintended consequences.

But your main point is correct. In almost any issue, Republicans would pass policies that are much worse towards blacks than Democrats would. Clinton's anti-drug laws were compromises with Republicans who wanted much harsher laws.

The same question could have been asked of the record numbers of black people who supported Obama (twice) despite him picking Joe Biden as his VP since Biden is even more responsible for everything you charge Bubba Clinton (and Hillary by extension) with and unlike Bill and Hill, Joe is still proud as shyt of his awful crime legislation record.
Black folks vote just like pretty much everyone else in this country and most people vote for the person they either "like" more personality wise or who they are most familiar with as a public name.

I bet the people said the same thing about Bill Clinton just because he was a Democrat and he "cared" about your vote. His Democratic policies have done much more harm to the black community than any Republican in the last 20 years...

His policies were not "Democratic." They were part of a neo-liberal affirmation and tough on crime stance that engulfed both parties. He did nothing a Republican in his position would not have done to black people. He wasn't a good president overall, however.
