On the interview he said he got the call from his niece around 2am. He went to check things out and didn’t see any movement, so he went home to call the non emergency number if the police department. 15 minutes later he heard a loud noise.

I agree with you but at 225 a.m. the only thing on dude mind was someone is doing something fishy and didn't want to end up in a confrontation. Be real, I'm not going on anyone's property at 2 in the morning if something looks off and neither would you unless it's family.
