It’s not that simple & the average black entrepreneur doesn’t have the capital to compete with Indians. Asians own the beauty products wholesale business globally.

I think the advantage in South London is that it has big clusters of black population (most black people in London live in south) & it’s very community based. And even with that - they can’t really compete with Indians when it comes to prices (in beauty products business) cos more time, Indians can afford to sell at a cheaper rate due to how they control the in-flow of stock (the supplier is Indian) & their group economics. But the average black entrepreneur has to sell at a higher rate to make profit, after deducting overhead cost.

We as a people need to start shopping black to support black businesses & keep the money in the community. That’s how black businesses can become viable thus helping their growth. People can’t keep giving their money to Indians, then start asking why there aren’t black businesses on the same level.

Anyway, extra £1-2 on what she bought being spent in a black shop across the road from bossman’s shop would’ve saved her from getting assaulted.

Pretty much this. Indians practice group economics so they all come up and basically keep everything in-house. And can afford to.

Peckham is where I grew up and it's always been Indians pretty much owning all the hair and beauty shops along Peckham High Street.

I know before I left there was an African beauty shop near the station and one up the top part of Peckham near the morleys.

Yes. They also do the VAT scam & there’s no way the average black business can compete with them.

Peckham is actually better now & there are small/medium sized black owned beauty/hair products shops on Rye Lane. And there’s a big black owned one on Walworth rd (by Costcutter) which is just down the road from Peckz. But you know how black folks are with penny-pinching - it’s always about every lil penny counts. However, black businesses can’t grow without patronage & you have to support them if you want them to be on the same level as Indian shops.

Let me tell you some funny story: everywhere in Southwark (from Peckham, to Camberwell, to Walworth, to Dulwich, to Old Kent, all the way to SE1) is littered with naija restaurants owned by naija folks, from regular ones, to bougie ones like Enish, 804 et al. And there’s a naija restaurant in Camberwell Green owned by an Indian man. Do you know that this Indian-owned naija restaurant gets more black customers than some of the naija restaurants owned by naija folks? - that’s basically how weird some black people are. They don’t see race when spending their money…but when they get attacked by the non-black people they spend their money with, they’ll pull the race card & expect all black people to rally behind them.

I don't understand the purpose of them 'protesting'. How about just not going to the store and having it shut down?

Sad thing is after this protest, a week later it will be filled with black women buying products from there. It's like we stay begging other races who don't want to deal with us to take our money.

I have an everlasting hatred for weave and the desires for straight hair, so I am not going to comment on this shyt. Cause I am tired of cursing.

Stopped going to those stores for years now. The full category, hair, convenience, food.

We don't learn the lessons we should be cause we are stuck in a cycle, and we cherish the bargain over everything else. We would give away our birthright for a couple extra cents.

Sometimes I feel ashamed that we as Black men haven’t built the infrastructures so shyt like this doesn’t happen

Our women have lose their lives the most during childbirth, youth have to beg people that hate them for jobs and getting assaulted buying Apus hair.

We in the US have built up the infrastructure multiple times, and it has been destroyed multiple times. What we need to do is better protect what we do build up here. We have to be willing to go all out to protect ourselves and our property, or no matter how many times we build it up they will find a way to destroy it again.

With the way the economy is going, the political winds are blowing, we will have to unite and try to build up our own infrastructure and economic systems again to survive. We have gone through 50+ years of dragging our feet and now we are nearly up against the wall. Hopefully we will have enough of us with our act together to accomplish what needs to be done. And no, none of the faking it to you make it mess we have running rampant now will aid us in accomplishing it.
