The problem is things have changed, but people are still looking at old media, or older elders, which is influencing their thinking. This is why we have problems with each other as genders, no one is being honest with the times they are living in, this creates confusion, and stress.

Women enter into contracts with men (officially, as in marriage, or unofficially, as in the case of shacking up situations) as a way of engaging in resource exchange/transaction. This has been happening for as long as human civilization. That's why prostitution is the oldest profession.

Our current society likes to romanticize hetero unions are formed with love at the foundation but the reality is (especially in developing countries) that women will be dependent on their family or living a different (read:worse) lifestyle if they weren't depending on a man to take care of them. That's due to women being barred from most professions (the higher the economic bracket the less women). And don't bring up affirmative action or feminism as an effective rebuttal b/c recent laws can't immeditaely change a system as old as time.

There are women who make more than their male counterparts but the inverse vastly outnumber them.
