I know a few friends like that; six figures or more in debt and still talking about getting the next one. What kills me is that none of them are willing to sacrifice their lifestyles to clean up their debt. Shopping, financing new cars every few years, vacations, etc all while paying $800+/month for student loans.
probably because student loans don't have the same stigma as other loans.
go apply for a house, they don't care about student loans. so you are still living a better lifestyle than say, someone who has a bad rental history and a low wage job.
wanting a car loan? 50k in students loans with a high salary doesn't scare a car dealer, as opposed to someone making 15$/hr on a factory line with little credit history.
you not gonna get your drivers license suspended, like say someone who can't afford to cover child support debts
can't pay your student loan? just call them and they will lower it to what you can pay.
feds aint even collecting student loans this year because covid.
a lot of people i know with student loans pay the bare minimum cuz they believe the government will lower it eventually
