3/4 of those are rooted in mathematics, a J.D is more advanced than any psych, sociology, or communications degree.

Degrees that aren't STEM aren't "worthless", they just tend to pay less.
However if you work it right (most) all of these degrees can pay off substantially so.

A degree in Medieval Studies is worthless....Unless you become a researcher for a Game of Thrones movie lol...

I feel like americans in general do this too much. I don’t recall seeing any immigrants taking those type of majors when i was in college. They go to college to maximize their earning potential.Basically treat college likr advanced trade school. We go in pursuit of higher education as if people will pay you for just being educated.

American Schools don't emphasize STEM or any critical thinking awareness. The students are taught to go to college and study what makes them happy, not what makes money.

Africans don't waste money on liberal/phony degrees, it is STEM or Law, nothing else. We need to take hints....

The problem is really deeper than earning the higher education though.
While there is rampant inequality there's also rampant financial illiteracy.
There are many people who don't grasp even the most basic aspects of investing, opportunity
cost, writing resumes, interviewing etc.


I know people who put in way more work by taking on three or four jobs to make what I make
in one year and even with all of the additional income they earn, it's blown items that
either heavily depreciate in value or serve no purpose in their life.

There are too many people I personally know who hit the check cashing place and are killing
themselves in retail/fast food/security work etc. and what little extra money they have is all
put into fashion, eating out, paying for cars they really can't afford etc.

A school teacher building their life around a lower cost of living, maximizing their 403b
& banking on a pension will be comparatively more wealthy than someone who makes
double or triple what they do but spend all their time giving their money away to other
people.

I do agree we should work together to get the most economic advantage.

Issue is that there are way too many Black women who haven't grasped that concept.
Go 70-80k in debt to make 35k and try to live in an expensive city for the gram brehettes.

Yes, more women attend school than men but the system has to keep things in balance. The system doesn't want White America to be Black America hence the strong kickback whenever you bash White men, notice White women don't really disrespect white men like that in media.

Our community runs different than most, they know that and allow it since it's very profitable and you can put black males in jail due to disfunction.

What people don't realize is that yes you could do something with a psych degree but those positions are very rare in the real world and go to folks who are either privileged or supremely gifted in that field.

Life is about being realistic and balancing probabilities.

Why is this even a debate? On AGREGGATE and not anecdotes individuals who go into higher education earn more over a LIFETIME than those with a high school diploma or a 2 year trade or no high school diplomat for all races. We can make an argument that some degrees are "worthless" (ppl should say less paying not worthless) or that whites with a hs degree accumulate more wealth than Blacks and other injustices.

However it does not mean getting LESS education but perhaps directing Black children from jump toward degrees which can turn to higher earning jobs.

The wealthiest Black person in the US (Robert F Smith) went to study engineering at Cornell and went to Columbia business school. He wasn't poor but he wasn't extremely wealthy either. He came from a house of professionals (teachers who understand the value of education) let that sink in. Does that mean every Black person who goes his educational route will become a Billionaire? No but it gives you a great shot at being in a good place financially.
