One of the greatest hip hop tracks ever. Still don't understand why they didn't put this shyt on the blackstar album. Mos def completely blacked the fukk out. That version of mos def could go toe to toe with any rapper that ever lived.

And that sample is too raw :wow:

I believe it was recorded way after the blackstar album came out, think it leaked during taround 2004-05 when there were talks of a new blackstar album coming.

One of my favourite songs ever, Mos and Kewli both ripped it

yea it definitely was recorded after the Blackstar album, based on references they made in their verses

Ayatollah produced it (who did Ms Fat Booty for Mos, and multiple tracks on Quality), and Ayatollah ended up releasing the whole instrumental on a retail released EP in 2003 called 'Personal Legend Volume 1' – which I doubt he would've released their beat himself unless he knew they werent gonna use it anymore, which makes me think maybe they recorded it earlier like 2001 or 2002 maybe and already gave up releasing it by then.

Could have been a sample issue, since its from a Bobby Womack cover of a Beatles song. Little Brother used the same sample on 'Speed' in 2003, but maybe they didnt even clear it, they were on a tiny underground label back then, Black Star were bigger on major labels and sampled it way more prominently.
