Why is it that black people are the only race of people on earth who claim mixed breeds?
Not going to rehash this argument, its been in upteen different threads. If you are a fan of that rampant colorism bullshyt you see in places like the Caribbean, Brazil, and South Africa, you can have it. I still can't get why people think this divided we stand stance is helpful to AAs.
A lot of people quote that Chancellor Williams portion of Destruction of Black Civilization about how mixed race (or mulatto) people were historically used to hide the contributions of Blacks or used against them (i.e. Arab Slave Trade, Haiti). However, they typically ignore the lines of the book (p. 208):
"The white man by driving his offsprings as a wedge into the black race is not only able to keep it weak by keeping it divided, but he is able to maintain effective control over it without the necessity of his own presence"
p. 336
"...millions who, although also of mixed blood, are wholly African in spirit and pride. These latter are the Adam Clayton Powells of the race who are not only above suspicion, but are regarded by the black masses as inseparably their own."
But hey Coli, nurse your resentment and drive us apart. People here swear it makes us stronger.
