Yeah the bench has been an issue for years now. No more Blake...we have to get more athletic. Afflalo was a bust...we should have kept Will Barton. I don't think anyone is going to trade for Batum so he's ours.
Yeah I say let afflalo walk, but Idk I'm sure there's some teams out there that wouldn't mind "trying" to make a run at having Batum come off the bench. I like Barton as well but I can kinda see getting rid of him. Imo the biggest thing that needs to happen bench wise, is cj learning to effectively play the point as well. It's cool that he's finally able to make his niche of being a scorer while being an undersized 2 guard, but I think it's even more crucial for him to develop into a true play maker and ball handler as well to take some of the pressure off of dame....

And just don't let popabytch get his hands on Batum :snoop:

Nah it's impossible for him to go Houston unless harden gets the boot.

Hypothetically a sign and trade sending tj and harden to the blazers might work for, LMA. Then getting Wes mathews to sign as a free agent.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lpk9x3x

Any other scenario is implausible. It's basically either

Chicago or Blazers at this point. And the spurs deal is only viable if Timmy and Manu retire.

If management in big cities like LA and NY weren't so busy tanking, they could have easily came up on a superstar.
Yea I knew Houston was pretty much an impossibility at this point.. it was a couple years ago that we were having that pipe dream.

Hence why I said I want him going to Chicago if not you guys... although at the time I said that, I wasn't aware that those were literally the only two options anyway lol.. i was speaking more from just wanting to see more competitive balance between conferences.

Trash at the moment, but they have plenty of cap space.

As long as you make the playoffs in the east, you have a chance to make the conference finals. Melo, LMA, Okafor/Towns and some solid role players could matchup against anyone in the east.
Nah. Hawk set ain't going nowhere, the Cavs ain't going nowhere, the bulls ain't going nowhere those three teams alone will make it hard to breathe, not to mention the heat will be back next year and they have plenty of vet experience. Pacers will be competitive as well as the wizards. It's not as cookie cutter as you try to make it seem....

The east outside of Chicago just isn't viable for a win now dude, at the PF. NY needs time to develop.....

The main reason the east wasn't as competitive this year resides around injuries(Bosh, PG, etc) and old age(KG). But by next season, injuries should be healed and new talent will enter the league / travel to different destinations this offseason. With that said, certain teams are just a player / coach away from playing like Warriors / Hawks. Like the magic or bucks could have a defining break out season at any moment, on a come up similar to the raptors have made in the past couple of years(since the :rudy: Gay trade), meanwhile other teams like the celtics and nets should continue decline.

Point is things will be a little more evened out by next season, with the West slightly having a competitive edge over the east. But the east still has undoubtedly the best player in the league right now. (LBJ).

But the real should be for teams not to tank and remain as competitive as possible. Now a top tier player will end up either resigning or end up joining forces with other top tier players in probably a competitive / big name market.

Breh, the west is gonna be much tougher to advance in. GS might not have even peaked as a team yet. OKC will be healthy and more than likely with a better coach. The Rockets and Clippers are gonna be in the thick of things as well. Next year is gonna be a nightmare for a lot of teams (health permitting).

No team in the east is a juggernaut. The Bulls are a terrible example to use. Cleveland beat them with LeBron having a subpar series, Love not playing and Kyrie on one leg by the end of it. They aren't scaring anyone. The Hawks have two big free agents with Millsap and Carroll, so there's definitely no guarantee they're back. The Wiz are tough, but their entire front court is aging and there's not a lot they're gonna be able to add. Pacers will be solid, but no one's gonna be afraid of them

The east is gonna be wide open again, just like this year. Get in and you have a chance.

Draft picks

Own first-round pick (23rd)

Projected cap space

Maximum: $39.8 million
Minimum: $0
Likely: $0

What's returning

Just two Portland starters are under contract. Fortunately, one of them is point guard Damian Lillard, who made his second consecutive All-Star appearance at age 24. Lillard's bargain $4.2 million salary gives the Blazers cap flexibility, but not for long. He'll be eligible for a contract extension this fall. Small forward Nicolas Batum suffered through a shooting slump at midseason after spraining his wrist. Expect him to return to form in 2015-16.

Recent Portland first-round picks Meyers Leonard and C.J. McCollum made progress in their development. Leonard added the 3-point shot to his game and benefited from opponents who were slow to update their scouting reports, getting open look after open look. Leonard actually posted a 50/40/90 season, albeit in just 850 minutes of action.

An early injury and the Blazers' unexpected success made McCollum an afterthought as a rookie. He struggled in the first half of Year 2 and could have been buried after the Arron Afflalo trade before Wesley Matthews' injury opened up copious playing time and McCollum took full advantage.

Free agents
The Blazers might have the most interesting set of free agents in the league, starting with franchise anchor LaMarcus Aldridge. The four-time All-Star is an unrestricted free agent and will be at the top of many other teams' wish lists. Though Aldridge told reporters last summer he planned to re-sign in Portland, recent reports have suggested he might look elsewhere. A teammate estimated to The Oregonian that the chances of Aldridge returning were "50-50."

The loss of Matthews to a ruptured Achilles devastated the Blazers' hope of a deep playoff run. Matthews had been prepared to hit free agency coming off his best season, having made nearly three 3-pointers a game at a 38.8 percent clip. Now his health might scare off other suitors. Center Robin Lopez has been a reliable presence in the paint for Portland and figures to get a raise from his $4.8 million salary even in a deep center market.

The Blazers' second unit could also have a different look, depending on a number of options. Guards Afflalo and Steve Blake both have player options. Afflalo might be hard-pressed to top his $7.75 million salary but could add more guaranteed years. Portland has the choice on center Chris Kaman, whose contract is guaranteed for $1 million, and young wing Allen Crabbe (non-guaranteed).

Biggest need: depth
The answer might really be health. After using just two starting lineups all of 2013-14, Terry Stotts had to try 20 different combinations this season because of injuries. Even before Matthews went down, however, the Blazers' bench remained their weak underbelly. Afflalo was expected to help there before being thrust into a starting role. If Leonard and McCollum take another step forward, Portland's bench could be improved by internal development -- assuming the starting lineup returns intact, which won't necessarily be the case.

Biggest question: Will Aldridge re-sign?
For much of the season, with the Blazers atop the Northwest Division and battling for a top-three seed in the Western Conference, Aldridge's return seemed like a formality. The ugly end to Portland's season could change his thinking. Everything else Portland does will hinge on Aldridge's decision. If he stays, the Blazers might keep their core together and hope Matthews comes back close to full strength. If Aldridge leaves, Portland might rebuild around Lillard.

The Blazers can clear nearly $40 million in cap space if everyone opts out and they renounce all their free agents. While that kind of complete makeover is unlikely, Portland would have to retool a roster that has been built around Aldridge's skills.

Ideal offseason
The promise of additional "Portlandia" cameos proves impossible for Aldridge to resist. He commits to a new five-year deal for the maximum salary that carries less risk because of the rising salary cap. Matthews agrees to a two-year deal with a player option after the first year, betting on his ability to bounce back from injury. Lopez signs a three-year, $25 million deal. With Matthews coming back healthy and McCollum and Leonard building on good moments in the second half and postseason, the Blazers don't miss the departed Afflalo and Kaman en route to claiming home-court advantage.

Ideally, shouldn't they go for a different center than Robin Lopez? Maybe DeAndre or Hibbert?

I've read Monta Ellis is unhappy and may want out. He's on a player option for 2015, if he opts out Dallas will have 33 million in cap, 25 million if he doesn't. They could be in play and possibly the favorites if Ellis walks, they have to re-sign Chandler too and 33 million should be enough to get both done. And if that happened they'd be like the Clippers and filling out the rest of the roster with vet min contracts, not exactly championship contender status. If Ellis stayed that more than likely takes them out of the running.

LA & NY aren't in position, Spurs would have to gut the roster to make room for him, not seeing anywhere for him to go other than Chicago and that's already been pointed out. Honestly, he should just take every dollar he can get and resign to the fact that he's not winning a championship no matter where he goes and stay in Portland. Better to be a loser with 30 million extra in the bank.

heard portland loves deandre jordan
DJ could work, because they like centers who don't need the ball and like to play Defense. But I think the organization and fans like RoLo too much. RoLo comingoff the bench could work if they dump Freeland and Kamen.

Kamen should just retire and become a coach. Reportedly he's responsible for Meyers Leonard finally getting some good looks. But they also need an in between mobile big man like B wright, for the uptempo style of play in the league.(small ball).
