As for not picking his father’s last name, a possible explanation is given in the Miles Morales novel by Jason Reynolds:

If Miles’ guess is correct, it would mean that his parents gave him the last name Morales to stay away from the criminal past of the Davis name.

I’d thought maybe Davis was his middle name (or that he had two last names), but in the new issue Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1, his full name was revealed to be Miles Gonzalo Morales.

I still think he should have the Davis name though. He could make the "Davis" name into a good thing.

It actually looks good, I was wondering how they were gonna do Blue Bettle and it looks like it'll be DC's Spiderman.

That's pretty much what the Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle has been in the comics (and animation).


Then, you have Black Spider which is DC's direct ripoff of Spider-Man (but as a villain)

Davis is a common ass name lmfao they just tryna clean up that nikkas gotta come from a single mother and always be "street wise slicksters".

There's too much money in an interconnected universe if people get invested to not do that. Captain Marvel didn't hit like $1 Billion because people were so invested in that character. People got invested in the ongoing story and had to see the next movie.
