The cast and crew of the upcoming web series Blue Collar Hustle has announced that the series will premiere Sunday, February 12th, on YouTube. Creator Alonge Hawes made the announcement on the series Facebook and Twitter accounts as well as released a new teaser for the show. Of the release date Alonge stated, “February as Black History Month, has extreme importance to us as a cast and crew of African Americans who are looking to join in league with those who are attempting to rewrite the black American story. We feel that it is symbolic to show the world what it is that we have to offer in portraying black men and women as upwardly mobile and determined individuals striving for meaning and purpose in their lives, in the month that we celebrate black culture and contribution.

Blue Collar Hustle is described as a tale of four 20-something black men who, instead of coming of age, experience a “coming of culture”, while living in Stone Mountain, Ga. They are attempting to break into Atlanta’s booming music scene while juggling the responsibilities of careers, families, and the realities of existing as black men in modern day society.

The series will be directed by Geoffrey Henderson and produced by his film company Geoffrey’s Planet LLC. Alonge Hawes serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. With Roberto Cruz, Howard Woodburn, and Shani Hawes as producers.

The series stars Quentin Williams as Quan Banneker, an up and coming Hip Hop artist looking to gain exposure and recognition for his debut project. Alonge Hawes as Ajani Garvey, a manager of a tech-services company looking to reclaim his own creative spark. Howard Woodburn, Ajani’s best friend and right hand man who never hesitates to speak the truth; as harshly as possible. Shani Hawes as Asha Luna, a co-worker of Ajani and Quan’s who has become dissatisfied with both her job and life trajectory. Tijuana Agnew as Anaya Bassett, Ajani’s independent and resourceful girlfriend, who balances her job and actress aspirations with the raising of the infant daughter she shares with Ajani. And Roberto Cruz as Jose Torres, Quan’s best friend and musical collaborator who pushes him to reach for greatness.

REVIEW: BLUE COLLAR HUSTLE “WHERE I BELONG” [EPISODE 1] • CAQ Records

I am excited to see the show unfold and see the vision Alonge has in store. You get the vibe of the title through the pilot. Everyone seems kind of content on where they are at right now and it is Ajani’s mission to bring out their hustle. I give the episode an 8.5/10 and I can’t wait to see the season unfold.

Blue Collar Hustle: Pilot Episode “Where I Belong” Review

After the first episode of Blue Collar Hustle, you are guaranteed to be hooked. The web series, centered around black Millenials in Stone Mountain, is a solid production with its relatable content tackling topics on family dynamics, feminism, and of course, music, with its witty mentions of Nas and Kanye throughout the 30 minute episode.

From the start it was clear that we had some real potential. A lesser indie series may have handled and presented things differently. "Blue Collar Hustle" contains a thoughtful, realistic look of how a young man's choices and responsibilities shape the life he lives, and the impact on his family. There is no question about that. The drama written in by Alonge Hawes may be a little light right now, but the potential for exponential growth is clearly present. I'm not going to give away any details, but the potential for a familiar drama, yet different enough to be great, is front and center here. Familiar in the sense of putting on your favorite shoes, yet unique enough to make them feel brand new. It's all here. The setups, the dreams, and the potential pitfalls and stereotypical ups and downs; waiting to be realized as the series continues
