Blueprint 3 was an awkward ass album

It was Jay growing out of that street aura and going more mainstream, 7/10 album. Some corny songs but definitely not that bad. Might be his lowest album next to Magna Carta.

One of the worst aged albums in his catalog. "Thank You" and "Already Home" is the only two songs that still hit good today. Everything else aged like bad milk.

Horrible especially coming from a great album like AG, the drop in quality is embarrassing, then came MCHG

I remember hearing Off That and thinking the shyt sounded outdated. And that was back in the gap.
Just a huge misstep of a record.

Yea that was like the peak of Young Money everywhere and near the end of ringtone/one it wonder rap. It was a terrible time (mainstream wise) that a certain demo gets fake nostalgic about.

I was just talking about this recently. During the first few albums, he had a team. So every project, he was surrounded by trusted ears, who would kinda steer him away from the missteps. The whole "breakup" thing really changed his music, to me. I used to always tell people that he didn't sound "cool" anymore, lol. That's how I saw it back then. But once the original team wasn't around anymore, the music started feeling like Hov was trying to catch up, rather than leading.

And like you said, Dynasty intro is one of his dopest verses in the past 25 years. That beat was one of the first joints he got from Just Blaze, if I'm recalling correctly. It was either that or "Stick 2 The Script". But he was in a zone at the time, where he really couldn't lose. And you could hear it. Once the team was gone, the Jay that we all heard for years killing sh*t, wasn't the same anymore.

I don't know if you have any knowledge on this, but would you happen to know about Eminem's A&R situation? I'm guessing Paul does everything, but the huge shift from Relapse to Recovery was probably bizarre in real time. Em used to take pride in doing everything in-house, then he had this great project with Dre, and then somebody (or Em himself) said that he needed to reach out to other producers and create this pop sound. Were you in the loop for those conversations?

Em used to have a dude named Manny doing A&R, but I always assumed Paul was doing everything. Because it just seemed like Paul was doing everything, lol.

I don’t know how it worked for him after the recording is done because he was doing everything at home. Dre helped him build a crazy studio and dude just stopped coming outside to make music. He would just be in the Batcave making music and had people sending him beats. I don’t know how the process worked after that. Just seemed like he wanted to make music in a bubble.

I'm strictly talking in terms of sales and popularity.

It's still his biggest selling album to date although BP3 contains the biggest radio hits.
