WARREN — A Warren man who called police after he allegedly overheard a female acquaintance conspiring to rob him was shot dead in the street before officers arrived March 27.
The search is now on for the woman and at least one man possibly connected to the killing.
Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills of the Warren Police Department said a dispatch operator received a call from a resident in the 23000 block of Stewart, near Nine Mile and Hayes, at about 9:50 p.m.
The resident was later identified as 38-year-old Marcus Samuel, who reportedly told the dispatcher he was monitoring an audio and video stream from inside of the home, available on his phone, when he heard the woman speaking with another person about a plan to rob him.
“The gentleman said there was a girl in his house and she was conspiring via phone with somebody to rob him,” Mills said. “When asked how he knows this, he was out of the house to buy some drinks, and he could hear her because he had video and audio streaming into his phone from inside his house.”
Mills said Samuel was told by dispatchers to wait at Nine Mile and Stewart for officers to arrive. Minutes later, police dispatch took another call from a neighbor about shots fired in the area.
“When officers arrived they found the 38-year-old deceased in the street with multiple gunshot wounds,” Mills said.
The investigation remained ongoing March 28. Police were looking for a 26-year-old woman from Detroit and at least one male suspect.
“We don’t believe she acted alone,” Mills said. “A male was seen fleeing the scene into a car, and the car was seen fleeing westbound on Doyle (north of Nine Mile and west of Hayes).”
Mills said the car was believed to be silver.
