I saw the video, he looked like he a lot of psychosis and delusion. Also, 29 is around the age certain mental illnesses start to pop up.

If they do it like David Duke or Mel Gibson, they are not mentally ill.

But it was obvious Fischer did not have all his faculties. I know you have your agenda, I have none, just giving you my observation.

I object to being called a chess genius because I consider myself to be an all around genius who just happens to play chess, which is rather different. A piece of garbage like Kasparov might be called a chess genius, but he's like an idiot savant. Outside of chess he knows nothing.

No, focusing on one thing does not make you crazy. Virtually everyone who is successful on a world level has an obsessive focus on their skill. Fischer just happened to also be crazy. Usually society makes allowances for successful crazy people. If Fischer was a factory worker no one would wonder if assembly work made him crazy. He simply would have been fired and on the streets. The mathematician John Nash was mentally ill and his colleagues simply accepted him as is. All they cared about was the math.

Laszlo Polgar studied geniuses and came to the conclusion that geniuses are not born but trained and educated. He advertised for a wife who would agree to raise geniuses. Laszlo and his wife homeschooled and taught their three daughters chess, foreign languages, and high-level math. Sofia became an international master and woman grandmaster and both Susan and Judit became grandmasters. As far as I know, none are mentally ill.

'Beautiful Mind' mathematician John Nash killed in crash
May 24, 2015

US mathematician John Nash, who inspired the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, has died in a car crash, local media has reported.

Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia were both killed when their taxi crashed in New Jersey, the reports said.

The mathematician is renowned for his work in game theory, winning the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994.

His breakthroughs in maths - and his struggles with schizophrenia - were the focus of the film.

Russell Crowe, who played him in the film, tweeted: "Stunned... My heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts."

Alicia Nash helped care for her husband, and the two later became prominent mental health advocates.

Media reports said the couple may not have been wearing seatbelts when they crashed.

Nash married Alicia Larde in 1957, when he was a rising star in the maths world.

But he developed severe schizophrenia soon after, and Alicia had him committed several times, with the pair divorcing in 1962.

They stayed close, and his condition had begun to improve by the 1980s. The two remarried in 2001.

Earlier this week, Nash received the Abel Prize, another top honour in the field of mathematics.

I met and I've played chess against emory tate. He and another friend whos an international master played overnight before a tournament in Dc. Emory might very well be a grandmaster now. He certainly had grandmaster strength and should have been the top black player in the world. His games are super aggressive, super dynamic.

I think these guys have a love for the game but also its an obsession to solve puzzles. Especially dynamic ones. I stopped playing chess myself. Id have been good but a certain point it needs alot of focus on it to go another tier. The effort you put in isn't worth it.

I know brilliant chess players who are poor. Who had brilliant minds but wasted it on this thing that didn't put food on their tables. You'd ask them hey where were you during 911 or any day in history. It was always the chess park.

You find guys might migrate to something else. Like im messing with texas hold em now. If you're good Atleast there's money in it.

As far as chess and other things you don't need 10000 hours. You just gotta learn to right things. If you can grasp it I grew past people who had been doing it for years in a short span. Simple rules govern it. I think it's the same for other things, sports, skills..The many hours are ordinarily to discover nuances of whatever you are doing but if you're in the company of people who know it already you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Just copy their program

one time this once crackhead asked me whether i played chess and i told him i didn't. he said if i did i'd be a beast. i decided to try it out and in a week i was beating good players. i just learned "the right things".

in about a month i was playing 2 boards at once.

the one person i could never beat is my crackhead og. i'd never understood how someone so good could get involved and hooked in drugs.

mowgli wanted to start a chess club back in the days on sohh but they never got organized to start it off.

Yeah there were guys id play for hours. This one brother called Ali would play me all the time. This shyt was mental warfare. Other guys homeless and drug issues would be there at dupont circle. It was a funny mix. These guys plus harvard grads and world bank guys and dc higher uppers playing each other. It was mostly a hustle with odds for money. I got better than most of them. Eventually you know who you can take or not.

It's really just knowing fundamental ideas and patterns. I'm rusty now and a way worse player than those days we were playing less than one minute speed chess. I don't even want to be better though.
